-- LAY DOWN ARMS, AMNESTY PROJECT WILL BE LAUNCHED
Deniz Baykal, the chairman of the Republican People's Party, or CHP, gave a historic message to the terrorist organization during his visit to the Southeastern Anatolia Region. Baykal said, "A amnesty project will be launched as soon as they say 'I will not make politics by weapons and I will totally lay down arms'." Baykal also said, "An amnesty will be issued when the terrorist organization PKK makes it clear that it will come out of the mountains and not resort to guns any more. Steps will be taken not to sentence the group who come out of the mountain to heavy imprisonment terms, as a requirement of the assurance they give."

Also, Baykal received an invitation to Iraq by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani. Baykal said, "I will regard an invitation by a head of state appropriate, and I will be pleased."

-- THEY WATCHED SAT COMMANDOS
Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, who was watching the "Efes 2009" military exercise, spent Tuesday night at the Aksaz naval base and watched the "Denizkurdu 2009" (SeaWolf) exercise on Wednesday. Erdogan and National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul wore hats with "Naval Command" insignias and received a briefing on the Kemalreis frigate from Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug.       Â

-- TURKEY RANKS FIRST WITH MOST TIME SPENT ON INTERNET
Turkey ranks first for the most time spent on the internet in Europe. According to comScore, a company specializing on internet statistics, milliyet.com.tr is the news site that the Turks visit the most. The company also said that Turkey ranks seventh in Europe for the number of internet users.

-- "EITHER EAT FIVE FRUITS OR DRINK JUICE"
Turkish producers of fruit juices expect to grow by 8 percent despite the ongoing global financial crisis. Turkish producers have developed a slogan that says "either eat five fruits or drink the juice of five fruits every day".       Â

-- "IF MORE TIME PASSES BY, THE PROBLEM WILL WORSEN"
President Abdullah Gul said that if more time passes regarding the Kurdish issue, the issue will worsen. Gul spoke about the Kurdish problem for the second time during his formal visit to Kyrgyzstan. Gul said, "Whether you call it terrorism or the Kurdish issue, we will settle it on our own. The more time that passes, the more problems we will face."

-- IRBIL'S BILKENT TO OPEN IN 2010
Ihsan Dogramaci, the founder of Bilkent-- the first foundation university in Turkey, will open a university in Irbil, his birth place. The university will be established with an investment of $40 million, and it will take students for the 2010 academic year.

-- MILIBAND AFFIRMS UK'S SUPPORT FOR TURKEY'S EU MEMBERSHIP
United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs David Miliband affirmed on Wednesday the UK's support for Turkey's European Union, or EU, membership. Miliband said that Turkey's membership in the EU would bring economic dynamism to the Union. Turkish membership in the EU would establish close ties between the West and the Islamic world, he said.

-- TURKISH GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE INTERNSHIP AND LATER JOBS
The Turkish government has prepared a three-leg package to deal with unemployment. According to the package, every unemployed person will work as an intern for a period of six months. Those participating in internship programs will receive salaries from the Unemployment Fund. Once the internship ends, the individual will be hired. The Turkish government plans to provide jobs to more than 500,000 people in the next two years.

-- WE SHOULD NOT WASTE TIME, PRESIDENT GUL
Turkish President Abdullah Gul said that Turkey should not waste time on the Kurdish issue. "There is an historic opportunity and Turkey itself will resolve the Kurdish issue," Gul said. "We should not waste time on the Kurdish matter. If time passes, problems will multiply," Gul also said.

-- WEAPONS SHOULD BE LIFTED FROM TABLE, BAYKAL
The chairman of Turkey's opposition Republican People's Party, or CHP, Deniz Baykal, said that they were trying to implement a Kurdish report. "We have to provide hope to the region. Weapons should be lifted from the table," Baykal said.

-- MOODY'S WARNS
An executive of the international rating organization Moody's said Turkey could only manage summer without the help of the International Monetary Fund, or IMF. Kristin Lindow said, "A comprehensive medium-term strategy is a must."      Â

-- MINE DRAFT OF GOVERNMENT IN MINE FIELD OF OPPOSITION
The government is facing difficult time at the parliament due to the draft law that envisages clearing land mines across Turkish-Syrian border and transferring the lands to the company that clears the mines. The four of six articles of the draft could be passed in two legislative weeks. However, the articles regarding the execution of the law could not be discussed in Parliament on Wednesday.

The Republican People's Party, or CHP, the Nationalist Movement Party, or MHP, and the Democratic Society Party, or DTP, are blocking discussions. Despite Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's warning and National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul's efforts to brief lawmakers, some MPs from the Justice and Development Party, or AKP, were not willing to participate in the general assembly.  Â

-- DEMIREL WAS INFORMED ABOUT APRIL 27 MEMORANDUM BEFOREHANDÂ
Ismail Hakki Amasyali, a former parliamentarian from the True Path Party, or DYP, said that former president Suleyman Demirel was informed about the April 27 memorandum ahead of time. Amasyali said Demirel hosted a luncheon at a luxurious hotel for representatives of February 28 (1997) military intervention during Ramadan in 2006. Amasyali said, "Demirel was informed about the memorandum to be given to the government."

-- ONE MORE SAT COMMANDER ARRESTED
Mustafa Turkkan Ecevit, an SAT commander who was sought by police in relation to a munitions cache unearthed from a plot in Poyrazkoy, Istanbul, was arrested. The plot belonged to Bedrettin Dalan, who is an Ergenekon case suspect who is still at large.
