-- HOSPITAL BLAZE KILLS EIGHT
A fire broke out at a public hospital in the northwestern province of Bursa on Tuesday, killing eight people and injuring several others. Officials said the casualties were mainly due to the intense smoke from the blaze that consumed the electrical wiring network in a ventilation shaft. There were 443 patients and 120 personnel at the hospital at the time of the blaze.

-- TURKEY ASSUMES CHAIR IN UN SANCTIONS COMMITTEE
Turkey has assumed the post of chair of a United Nations sanctions committee on North Korea and take on the role of conveying the U.N.'s ultimatums to North Korea to bring an immediate halt to Pyongyang's nuclear program. Turkey is also set to take over on June 1 the rotating presidency of the U.N. Security Council.

-- ISRAELI AMBASSADOR: GET RID OF THIS PHOBIA
Israeli Ambassador in Ankara Gabriel Levy said that Israelis wanted to come to Turkey to invest, and they did not have the intention of seizing Turkish lands. Levy said that Turkey should get remove of this phobia. Regarding the claims that Israelis bought up lands in the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) region, Levy said that so far he had not met a single Israeli who had purchased land in that region.

-- CELIKEL NEW PRESIDENT OF CYDD
Following the demise of Turkan Saylan, Prof. Dr. Aysel Celikel was selected as the new president of the Association for Support of Contemporary Living, or CYDD. Prof. Celikel said that the CYDD would continue its activities with the same understanding.      Â
-- RUSSIANS GET ANGRY WITH MARDAN PALACE
Russia reacted against the ultra-luxury hotel, Mardan Palace, which was inaugurated in the Turkish southern province of Antalya by Azerbaijani businessman Telman Ismailov with an array of Hollywood celebrities. Russian Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper wrote a news report titled "they earned in Moscow, then built the palace in Turkey", and strongly criticized Ismailov.

-- DEATH IN VAIN IN INTENSIVE CARE UNIT
Eight patients receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of a state hospital in western province of Bursa lost their lives due to a chain of negligence. The fire that broke out late at night in Sevket Yilmaz state hospital, which was constructed using the latest technology, was quickly extinguished. However, the thick smoke spread upstairs through the ventilation system. Eight of the 16 patients in intensive care unit lost their lives.       Â

Relations between Turkey and Armenia and the approach of Azerbaijan to the relations was negotiated in a workshop on Tuesday. Armenian academicians believe that the solution address is Turkey.

Murat Karayilan, actual head of the terrorist organization PKK, had previously suggested that a state system or models like in Kosovo and Basque region could be used for the PKK. In an interview with British daily "The Times", Karayilan said, "we want a parliament like the Scottish people".      Â
-- LET FRIENDS BE HAPPY AND ENEMIES THINK, BASBUG
Turkish Armed Forces, or TSK, held one of its most important field exercises in Seferihisar town of the Aegean province of Izmir yesterday. Scenes from the "Efes 2009" exercise resembled those of a real war. TSK members used real bullets and new weapons in the exercise. Delivering a speech at Efes 2009, Turkish General Staff Chief Gen. Ilker Basbug said that Turkey's friends would be happy to see the TSK's power and capability, while its enemies would start to think more seriously.

-- AMERICAN TURKISH SOCIETY TO MARK 60TH ANNIVERSARY
The American Turkish Society is set to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its foundation at a gala night in New York City. Turkish and American businesspeople will gather for the event which is also expected to host former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Coca-Cola's Turkish CEO, Muhtar Kent and Ilhan Ozince, head of Turkey's Anadolu Group, who will share a "corporate partnership award".

-- TURKEY TO EXPLORE NEW MARKETS IN SOUTH AMERICA
Turkish State Minister Zafer Caglayan said the government would organize business trips to South American countries next spring as part of an effort to reach out to new markets. "We are targeting South America and other closed markets in order to achieve our goal in exports," Caglayan said. Turkey plans to make $104 billion in exports in 2009.

-- FIRE IN HOSPITAL: 3 NEGLIGENCE AND 8 LIVES
Eight patients died in a fire that broke out in state hospital in the western province of Bursa. The three points of negligence that were responsible for the deaths of eight patients are: the company that constructed the hospital did not abide by the condition of fireproof cables. The chairman of Bursa Medical Chamber said, "The fire broke out in cables of tomography equipment. The cables should have a special cover and should not cause smoke".
The second was the ventilation system. The medical chamber said, "According to regulations, the ventilation system of the intensive care units and operating rooms should be separate from the main building to be hygienic and to protect from dangers such as fire. However, this hospital does not have a separate ventilation system."
And thirdly, the medical chamber said, there was no plan against the possibility of fire. The necessary equipment to transport the patients from the intensive care unit was not available.      Â
-- ASSURANCES TO AZERBAIJAN
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who held talks in Azerbaijan, gave assurances to Azerbaijan. He said, "Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and stability are essential for us. Turkey will continue to be with you in the future."

-- RUSSIANS ANGRY
Russians were angered after a Russian businessman of Azerbaijani origin Telman Ismailov opened a $1.4 billion hotel in the Mediterranean province of Antalya. Russian press wrote that Ismailov earned his fortune in Russia and there was no need for him to make such an investment in Turkey.
-- WE ARE PROUD
The "Efes 2009" field exercise of Turkish Armed Forces, or TSK, made Turkey proud. Premier Tayyip Erdogan and Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug watched the exercise together. Tanks and 105-mm artilleries were used for the first time in the exercise.
