--RUSSIA 1ST, TURKEY 7TH

Russian singer Believe won the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest with his song "Dima Bilan". Russia got 272 points. Turkey ranked the 7th with Deli, sang by "Mor ve Otesi." Turkey collected 138 points.

--ERDOGAN: NOBODY CAN BLAME ISLAM

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Museum of History of Islam, Science and Technology in Istanbul, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "wisdom, science and thought were continuously mentioned together in our holy book. If we do not fulfill it as a Muslim, nobody can shift the blame onto this civilization or this religion."

--TURKEY RANKS 7TH IN EUROVISION

Turkish band "Mor ve Otesi" became the 7th at Eurovision Song Contest in Serbia. Dima Bilan song of Russia won the contest. Visual shows, instead of songs, sealed the contest.

ERDOGAN DUE TO DIYARBAKIR WITH A $12 BLN OF PROJECT

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will announce the new action plan worth of $12 billion for Southeast Anatolian region in Diyarbakir province on May 27. Erdogan will also explain investment projects for other regions.

--EXPANDED WATCH ON PRIVATE LIFE

National Intelligence Organization (MIT), gendarmerie and police requested the authority to access all information at private and governmental institutions about citizens.

The bill, which was prepared to prevent misuse of private information about citizens, turned into a controversy of keeping records when MIT, gendarmerie and police asked for special exception. Parliamentary sub-committee on justice put the bill over upon hesitations.

--MORTAR SHELL AT WEDDING CEREMONY

A mortar shell fell near a public square where some 500 people gathered for a wedding ceremony in southeastern province of Sirnak's Idil town. Luckily, only the ignition system of the shell exploded and injured 3 people. Officials are now investigating where the shell was fired from.

--WESTERN WORLD TOOK SCIENCE FROM ISLAM

Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during the inauguration of Islamic Science and Technology Museum, said, "it is known that works of Muslim scholars were translated from Arabic to Latin throughout a period from 12th to 16th century; and European scientists --although they were not that much careful in citing the resources- benefited from those works.

However, today they are still rejecting this. Those works fostered European civilization significantly."

--WE STARTED GOOD, ENDED ON 7TH RANK

"Mor ve Otesi", which represented Turkey with the song "Deli" in Eurovision Song Contest in Serbia, ranked the 7th with 138 points. Turkey had the only 12 points from Azerbaijan.

--PKK ATTACK IN CUDI

Three soldiers were wounded in the attack which was staged by PKK terrorists with missiles on gendarmery commando troops at Cudi mountain. Also a remote-controlled bomb went off on railways while a train was passing in eastern province of Bingol. No casualties reported.

--AWARD NIGHT AT CANNES

Eyes of the world turned to Cannes while hours left to announce the results of 61st Cannes Film Festival. Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan's "Uc Maymun" will probably become very successful

SUPREME COURT OF APPEALS: WE WILL ABIDE BY PRESIDENT'S CALL

Remarks to ease tension between the government and the judiciary came from Hasan Gerceker, president of the Supreme Court of Appeals. "We are not in favor of a conflict between institutions," Gerceker said.

Gerceker also said they would participate in a prospective meeting, expected to be arranged by President Abdullah Gul, to meet top judiciary officials and government officials. "Judiciary must be protected like a precious flower," he said.

--TURKEY: SALT CHAMPION

Turkey's Hypertension and Kidney Diseases Association researched: Turkish people consume 18 grams of salt a day per capita. The ideal is 5 grams, said Professor Yunus Erdem, a nephrologist at Hacettepe University.

"There are 15-18 million patients suffering from tension in Turkey. Most of them can finish their treatments by reducing salt consumption," he said.

--THE LEAST DEMOCRACY IS IN OUR JURISDICTION

In western world, Parliament is authorized to select higher jurisdiction organs, while in Turkey this democratic process does not function. The Parliament is authorized in Germany and Belgium to select members to Constitutional Court. Execution and jurisdiction do not intervene in the election.

--1 MILLION GOOD PEOPLE WANTED TO GIVE BLOOD

Red Crescent is looking for "one million good people" for its new campaign. Red Crescent Director General Kucukali said, "we have not reached the desired level in blood donation. People should be more sensitive in this issue.
