Premier Tayyip Erdogan said he would not run in the general elections in 2015 as regulations in his Justice and Development Party, or AKP, do not allow a party member to stand as a lawmaker for more than three terms in succession. "Our rules are clear. I have one more term to go and then I will have to quit," Erdogan told a group of students. The next scheduled general elections are for 2011. If Erdogan wins, he would serve as the prime minister for the last time by 2015.
