-- WE HAVE BEEN ON GUARD FOR 90 YEARS
Today, the Turkish nation will proudly celebrate the 90th anniversary of national struggle which was started by the Great Leader Ataturk in the northern province of Samsum on May 19, 1919. President Abdullah Gul: We trust in our country and we are looking toward the future with confidence. Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan: It is the date of our beginning under the leadership of Ataturk. Premier Tayyip Erdogan: Those, who brought up their children well, will exist in the future.

-- WE LOST A GREAT TURKISH WOMAN
Prof. Dr. Turkan Saylan lost her battle with cancer. Prof. Saylan, who is known for her pioneer studies on health and education areas, will continue to enlighten the path of youth with her contemporary and exemplary life. Her last message: "I completed all of my appointments, I fulfilled all of my duties. Now I am ready to die." First ceremony for Saylan will take place at Lutfi Kirdar in Istanbul at 2:30 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Zincirlikuyu after the prayer in Tesvikiye Mosque.

Professor Turkan Saylan, president of the Association for Support of Contemporary Living, or CYDD, has passed away. Saylan was known for her fighter character all over Turkey. As a doctor, she fought diseases like leprosy, and as a modern educator, she fought against ignorance. Her last words before she passed away were: "Send 100,000 girls to school".

-- COURT SAYS "GUL SHOULD BE TRIED"
A Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had previously ruled that President Abdullah Gul, against whom a police report had been prepared regarding the "Missing Trillions" case when he was a deputy, had immunity from prosecution. The 1st High Criminal Court of Sincan has annulled such a decision, stating that "standing trial was a basic requirement in law". Upon such a development, the Cankaya Presidential Palace released a statement and said that "Gul cannot be tried".

-- HOPE FOR SOLUTION IN DIYARBAKIR
President Abdullah Gul's new Kurdish initiative created a sense of momentum in political world as well as in the southeastern Anatolian region. First support came from businessmen of the southeastern province of Diyarbakir. Businessmen will meet with Gul, and convey their suggestions for solution. Diyarbakir Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Galip Ensarioglu said, "We are at the closest point to a solution for the first time in the last 30 years. Mr. Gul took the initiative and gave the start for a solution. Now it is time to decide which steps will be taken."

-- SHE PAID FAREWELL BY SAYING 'I AM READY TO DIE'
Prof. Dr. Turkan Saylan, president of the Association for Support of Contemporary Living, or CYDD, passed away a day after she said: "I completed my duties; I'm ready to die". Saylan's last wish was for the return of her notes that were confiscated as part of the Ergenekon probe. The prosecution returned the notes 10 days ago.

-- WE LOST A GORGEOUS WOMAN
Today we bid farewell to Professor Turkan Saylan, president of the Association for Support of Contemporary Living, or CYDD. Saylan passed away early on Monday at the hospital she had been receiving treatment. "I have fulfilled all my duties. Now I am ready to die," said Saylan, minutes before she passed away. Saylan had been struggling with breast cancer for 19 years.

The judge of a High Criminal Court in Sincan has ruled that "Suspect Abdullah Gul should be tried in connection with the 'Missing Trillions' case". Turkey's Presidential Palace reacted harshly to the decision. "Attempts to show the President as a suspect cannot be well-intentioned", Cankaya said.

We respectfully commemorate Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, on the anniversary of his lighting the independence torch. The May 19th Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day will be celebrated throughout Turkey, in foreign representations and in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, or TRNC, with ceremonies. President Abdullah Gul, in his May 19th Commemoration of Ataturk, Youth and Sports Day address, said that the pride of having a past full of victories will be felt once again on this day presented by Ataturk to the nation’s youth.

We have lost Prof. Turkan Saylan, passionate for contemporary values and pioneer of education and science. Saylan, president of the Association for Support of Contemporary Living, or CYDD, who dedicated her life firstly to the fight against leprosy, and then to the education of girls, has passed away. Her last words were; "I completed all of my appointments, I fulfilled all of my duties. Now I am ready to die." The house of Saylan, who fought hard against ignorance, was earlier raided within the scope of Ergenekon probe.

-- TODAY IS RESPECT DAY FOR SAYLAN
The CYDD's President Professor Turkan Saylan has passed away at a hospital in Istanbul where she had been receiving cancer treatment for 19 years. The Turkish people will bid farewell to Saylan with a long funeral cortege today. Releasing a statement upon Saylan's death, the CYDD said that "Saylan would continue to live in the hearts of her friends and the children and youngsters of her beloved country with her thoughts, values and principles".

-- BAYKAL'S KURDISH MOVE
Republican People's Party chairman Deniz Baykal said that his party was currently working on a detailed plan for a solution of the Kurdish issue. Baykal's approach comprises of numerous moves such as the right to write petitions in mother tongue in official procedures, expanded broadcasting rights and positive discrimination in health and education services.

-- HERON CRISIS
Turkey and Israel are currently having a crisis over the "Heron Unmanned Aerial Vehicle" systems. Israeli newspapers wrote that Turkey might decide not to purchase Heron aircrafts from Israel as the delivery of the vehicles was delayed. The manufacturer IAI company said that the biggest problem in delivery time stemmed from the heavy cameras to be installed inside the aircrafts. According to a $185-million agreement signed between the two countries in 2005, Israel was due to deliver 10 Heron aircrafts to Turkey last year.

Professor Turkan Saylan, president of the Association for Support of Contemporary Living, or CYDD, has passed away at a hospital in Istanbul where she had been receiving treatment, at the age of 74. Saylan, who lost her 17-year fight against cancer, will be laid to rest in Istanbul today.
