-- FLY HADISE!
Turkish singer Hadise will represent Turkey at the finals of the 54th Eurovision Song Contest to be held in the Russian capital of Moscow tonight. Commenting on the competition, Hadise said, "I am not afraid of any of my rivals. I will shake Moscow with my song 'Dum Tek Tek'".

-- UNEMPLOYMENT RECORD: 16.1 PERCENT
Turkey broke a new record with a 16.1 percent unemployment rate in February 2009. The unemployment rate was 15.5 percent in January. There are currently more than 3.8 million unemployed people in Turkey and the country is at the 3rd place in the world ranking, following South Africa and Spain.

-- THERE IS PLACE FOR TURKEY IN EUROPE
In an exclusive interview with daily Milliyet, Portugal's President Anibal Cavaco Silva commented on the pessimistic atmosphere which the presidents of Germany and France were trying to spread for Turkey's full membership to the European Union (EU). Silva said, "for Portugal, there is place in the EU for Turkey. Eliminating the obstacles in front of the negotiations and finding a moderate way to open chapters are important now."

Number of unemployed people rose 1.1 million in February 2009 when compared with the same period of last year and reached 3.8 million. Unemployment rate rose 4.2 percent and reached 16.1 percent. Unemployment rate in young population rose 28.8 percent.

-- 14 SECRET SUSPECTS TO TRAVEL TO PARIS
14 confessors, whose faces have been changed with plastic surgery, are travelling to Paris with a private jet in order to inform the French officials on terrorist organization PKK's drug trafficking and money laundering activities. This is an important step for Turkey, which exerted countless efforts concerning PKK's activities in Europe, but could not get any legal results.

-- GUL'S MESSAGE ON KURDISH ISSUE
Turkish President Abdullah Gul, who is on an official visit to Syria, replied to questions prior to his departure for Damascus. Upon a question on Kurdish issue, Gul said, "We will solve our problems on our own".

President Abdullah Gul traveled to Syria on Friday upon an invitation from Syrian President Bashar al-Asad. Responding to a question about Kurdish problem, Gul said, "there are well-intentioned works in Turkey. I hope all of them will result in positively because all of them are our problems. We will discuss our problems and resolve them on our own."

Premier Tayyip Erdogan criticized French President Nicolas Sarkozy's and German Chancellor Angela Merkel's stances against Turkey during his visit to Poland. Erdogan reacted upon a question on whether "Turkish Armed Forces' influence over the government should be reduced for Turkey's EU membership". He said that the Turkish Armed Forces carried out its duties within its purview.

-- UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASES IN 10 MONTHS
1.1 million people lost their jobs due to the economic crisis. The unemployment rate, which was a one-digit figure when the crisis started in September 2008, broke a record with 16.1 percent in February 2009. The unemployment rate among young population increased to 28.6 percent from 21.5 percent.

151,000 people were added to those unemployed in February. Number of unemployed rose 1.1 million in one year and reached 3.8 million. Rate of unemployment in youth rose to 28.6 percent in one year. This rate was 27.9 in January.

Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office did not put into operation the Deniz Feneri file which Germany sent requesting interrogation of 16 people. The reason is: the accusations are not in the file.

Turk Telekom's Director General Paul Doany said they entered 32 percent of the housings in Turkey, adding that they invested 6 billion lira so far for infrastructure.
