President Abdullah Gul had a meeting with Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, in Belgian capital of Brussels. In regard to "tax penalty" to Dogan media group, Barroso said that respect for freedom of press was one of the fundamental values of the European Union. Replying to a question, Barroso said they had been watching developments regarding penalty to Dogan Group.

Crash of helicopter (around the village of Kurucaova in the southern province of Kahramanmaras) carrying Great Unity Party (BBP) chairman Muhsin Yazicioglu and other five people caused deep sorrow in the country. Hopes have been fading away to find Great Unity Party (BBP) leader Muhsin Yazicioglu and five other people alive after their helicopter crashed in the southern province of Kahramanmaras two days ago. Hundreds of soldiers, villagers and other rescue workers searched for the wreckage of the helicopter, bud fog and snowstorms hampered the search missions by air. A locator signal from the helicopter could not been detected since 3.00 a.m. on Thursday morning and the size of the large area made search efforts difficult. Meanwhile, members of the BBP claimed that official search efforts were conducted in the wrong area. An executive of the political party said that they determined a totally different coordinate through GPS devices and sent a team to the region.

But fog, cold weather and snowstorms hampered the search missions. Rescue teams worked till the midnight Thursday, but they could not reach the wreckage.

The state mobilized all means and instruments at its disposal. Three thousand people including gendarmerie forces and civilians, 11 helicopters and a plane could not find the wreckage of the helicopter. Hopes are fading away to find those on board the helicopter alive. Since the emergency locator transmitter (ELT) in the helicopter did not give any signals, efforts to locate the wreckage became more difficult under the current bad weather conditions in the area.

The telephone conversation between Ismail Gunes, a reporter of the IHD News Agency who was on board the helicopter which crashed two days ago, and the emergency hot line was revealed. "My foot is badly broken. I am starting to freeze. I cannot see Muhsin Yazicioglu. I think the others are dead. I cannot move my foot. When will you locate us, madam?" Gunes said. Meanwhile, people criticized the emergency hot line officials for panicking and letting the battery in Gunes's mobile telephone drained by talking too long.
