-- CRASH ON WAY TO SECOND RALLY
The helicopter, which was carrying six people including Great Unity Party (BBP) chairman Muhsin Yazicioglu from the first election rally of his party in the southern province of Kahramanmaras to the second rally in the central Anatolian province of Yozgat, crashed in the mountainous area near Goksun town due to snowy and stormy weather. IHA (Ihlas news agency) reporter Ismail Gunes, who was also in the helicopter, called his news agency's director general by his cell phone and said "everybody died except me and I'm going to die too". Then the signal died. Officials could not reach the debris due to bad weather. The condition of Yazicioglu and accompanying five people is unknown.  Â

Before U.S. President Barack Obama (expected to be in Turkey on April 5), his belongings were brought in with a plane. A C5 Galaxy military plane, which carried the belongings in 17 trucks was unloaded in two hours.

-- THREE MORE GENERALS
Force commanders will be tried for the first time in Turkey on charges of attempting to stage a military coup. Four coup attempts (Sarikiz, Ayisigi, Yakamoz and Eldiven) were listed in the second indictment prepared within the scope of Ergenekon case. The indictment accuses former force commanders retired generals Ozden Ornek, Aytac Yilman and Ibrahim Firtina of cooperating with the organization Ergenekon. The prosecutor carrying out the investigation said that the former generals would be tried by civil courts, not by the military court.

-- YAZICIOGLU'S HELICOPTER CRASHES
A helicopter carrying the chairperson of Great Unity Party (BBP) Muhsin Yazicioglu and five more people from the southern province of Kahramanmaras to the central province of Yozgat for an election rally, crashed near Berit Mountains yesterday afternoon. When today's edition of Milliyet daily was published, search and rescue teams could not yet reach the wreck and it was still not clear whether there were any casualties.

-- HOPEFUL WAITING FOR YAZICIOGLU AND HIS TEAM
A helicopter carrying the chairman of Great Unity Party (BBP) crashed while travelling to central Anatolian province of Yozgat from southern province of Kahramanmaras. Rescue teams are still searching for the helicopter wreck and Yazicioglu. Bad weather conditions hamper efforts to find the helicopter. The search for Yazicioglu and his team continues in the mountainous region near Goksun town.

U.S. President Barack Obama will be welcomed to Turkey with a warm greeting that is only reserved for kings. 15 minutes prior to Obama's arrival in Ankara all airplanes will be barred from landing at Ankara's Esenboga International Airport. Tight security measures have been taken for Obama in Ankara. The minute Obama's Air Force One plane enters Turkish air space it will be accompanied by four Turkish F-16 jets.

-- CUT IN VALUE ADDED TAX TO BOOST COMPUTER SALES
Experts predict that a recent cut in value added tax (VAT) rate will boost the sales of computers in Turkey. A company official from Turkey's Casper Computers said that they expected one million computers to be sold in the next three months in Turkey. VAT on computers went down to 8 percent from a former 18 percent.

-- AKP, 39.8 PERCENT ACCORDING TO A&G
Justice and Development Party (AKP) is again ahead of other parties in general of Turkey. However, the rate of votes for it is 6.72 points lower than it was in 2007. According to a survey that A&G research company carried out for CNN Turk channel with 5,412 people in 44 provinces, the distribution of votes in general of Turkey is like this: AKP: 39.8 percent, Republican People's Party (CHP): 26.4 percent, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP): 15.7 percent, Democratic Society Party (DTP): 5.3 percent, Felicity Party (SP): 5.2 percent, Democrat Party (DP): 2.6 percent, Democratic Left Party (DSP): 1.4 percent.

-- BBP CHAIRMAN, WHOSE HELICOPTER CRASHES, STILL MISSING
The helicopter, which was carrying Great Unity Party (BBP) chairman Muhsin Yazicioglu from the southern province of Kahramanmaras to the central Anatolian province of Yozgat, crashed near Haci Omerli village of Berit mountains at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The connection died after IHA (Ihlas news agency) reporter Ismail Gunes (who was also in the Bell 206 L-4 type helicopter) said "we are in bad condition" by his cell phone. Wreckage of the helicopter could not be found till the late hours of the night. No news has been heard from Yazicioglu and accompanying four people. Intensive search and rescue efforts continue.

-- TERRORIST ORGANIZATION PKK INVITED TO KURDISH CONFERENCE
The regional administration in north of Iraq has invited terrorist organization PKK to the upcoming conference on Kurds in the north of Iraq. Ankara is hopeful that the terrorist PKK will lay down arms following this Kurdish conference.

-- PM ERDOGAN TARGETS MEDIA AGAIN
Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan criticized the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and a portion of the Turkish media. Referring to the chairman of the CHP, Deniz Baykal, Erdogan said that "Baykal can appear on tv with his own show. But the real show will be made by the Turkish people on March 29: a show of democracy".

-- TURKISH TEA CONSUMPTION INCREASES BY 13.6 P.C. IN 2008
A senior official of Lipton Tea Company said that tea consumption in Turkey increased by 13.6 percent in 2008 when compared to the previous year. "Despite the ongoing global financial crisis, the tea market in Turkey continues to grow," said the official.

-- A "FIRST" IN OUR HISTORY: CIVIL COURT TO HEAR CASE ON COUP ATTEMPT
The second indictment of Ergenekon case lays down four coup attempts and accuses retired generals Sener Eruygur and Hursit Tolon of "attempting to overthrow the government by force of arms". The second indictment accepted by the court seeks imprisonment for 56 suspects. The prosecutor's office carrying out the investigation claimed that retired generals Tolon and Eruygur had connections with the attacks on the Council of State and Cumhuriyet daily. The prosecutor also asked the court to sentence the two generals to aggravated life imprisonment for three times.

Search and rescue teams could not locate the wreckage of the helicopter for hours. The helicopter was carrying Yazicioglu from Kahramanmaras, where he attended an election rally, to Yozgat when it crashed near a mountainous area in Goksun town in the afternoon.

-- POISONOUS COUP ATTEMPT
The second indictment of Ergenekon case, which seeks imprisonment for 56 suspects, has been accepted by an Istanbul High Criminal Court. The 1909-page indictment has revealed that top-suspect retired Gen. Sener Eruygur even thought of poisoning retired Gen. Yasar Buyukanit in an attempt to stage a military coup. The court will start trying the 56 suspects on July 20.      Â

-- GREAT CONCERN
A helicopter that was carrying Muhsin Yazicioglu, the chairperson of Great Unity Party (BBP), crashed. The helicopter, which was taking Yazicioglu from the southern province of Kahramanmaras to central province of Yozgat, crashed near Goksun town. Two helicopters belonging to the Turkish Health Ministry and Police Department were sent to the crash scene right after the helicopter's pilot called 112 for help.
