--OBAMA SURPRISE
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that U.S. President Barack Obama would pay a visit to Turkey in a month's time. Obama is expected to attend the "Alliance of Civilizations" meeting as part of his visit.

Holding a series of talks in Ankara, Clinton met with Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Premier Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Ali Babacan. Clinton called the terrorist organization PKK a "common enemy" for Turkey and the United States. She also said that both countries were committed to democracy, secularism and free market economy.

--HEAVY PENALTY FOR TAPPING
Turkish Justice Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin said that heavy penalties would be imposed for "tapping" activities. "If the penalties imposed for such crimes are not a deterrent, then it is our responsibility to do something," he said.

--NO TO DEFINITION OF "MODERATE ISLAM"
Tensions escalated between Turkey and the United States during the term in office of former President George W. Bush was eased as a result of messages given by new Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Ankara. Clinton said that U.S. President Barack Obama would pay a visit to Turkey within a month. When asked whether they would use the definition of "moderate Islam" for Turkey, Clinton simply said, "no". She described Turkey as a regional and global leader.

--MILITARY HELICOPTER CRASHES, KILLING TWO SOLDIERS
An AH-1 Cobra military helicopter crashed in the central province of Kayseri during a flight from the eastern province of Malatya to the capital city of Ankara. Two pilots on board the helicopter were killed instantly. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.

--AKP SHOULD GET AT LEAST 52 PC OF VOTES, BAYKAL
Deniz Baykal, chairperson of Republican People's Party (CHP), refrained from determining a "success threshold" for his party prior to the local elections in Turkey. Commenting on the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) position prior to the elections, Baykal said, "The ruling party's advantage is minimum 5 percent in local elections. When you add 47 percent to such figure, it makes 52 percent. Any figure below that is a failure for the ruling party, anything above 52 percent can be considered a success," Baykal said.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in the Turkish capital of Ankara and said that U.S. President Barack Obama would also pay a visit to Turkey in a month. Clinton said that the decision on Obama's visit was taken the other day; however, the date of such visit was not determined yet.

--CLINTON SAYS LOVE HELPED HER OVERCOME PAIN OF MONICA SCANDAL
As part of her visit to Turkey, Clinton also attended a TV show hosted by journalist Cigdem Anat, novelist Pinar Kur, actress Mujde Ar and model Aysun Kayaci. The most striking question of the show was asked by actress Ar. Upon Ar's question on "how she managed to overcome the painful experiences in her life", referring to former U.S. President Bill Clinton's affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky, Hillary Clinton said love, forgiveness, friendship and family helped her through such a process.

After journalist Mustafa Balbay was arrested, the information on his computer was presented to the press. Balbay had written a book on such documents and information which were described as "confidential". Ahmet Abakay, chairperson of Contemporary Journalists' Association (CGD), said that no investigation was launched against Balbay's books during the time they were published.

--OBAMA COMING TO TURKEY
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who paid a working visit to the Turkish capital of Ankara, said that U.S. President Barack Obama would come to Turkey next month. Clinton said the date of such visit would be determined after a series of talks. Upon a question on whether Turkey was included as a route in U.S.'s pull out plans from Iraq, Clinton said the withdrawal process was at its initial phase at the moment.

In an interview with the CNNTurk TV Channel, Clinton said that what she liked most about Turkey was its lively society and democracy.

--TWO LIEUTENANTS KILLED IN HELICOPTER CRASH
An AH-1 Cobra military helicopter, belonging to the Turkish Land Forces Command, crashed in the central province of Kayseri. It was traveling from the eastern province of Malatya to the capital city of Ankara when it went down due to an unknown cause. Two pilots on board the helicopter were killed in the crash.

Clinton described Turkey as a "regional leader" and gave the surprising news that President Barack Obama would pay a visit to Turkey within a month. --12 NEIGHBORS TO OCALAN
New cells were added to Imrali Prison where Abdullah Ocalan, head of the terrorist organization PKK, has been serving his life prison sentence. A mini sports facility will also be added to the complex for 12 inmates.
