-- SHOWING BODY PARTS IS NOT HUMANE

Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit said, "they want us to show body parts (of terrorists). We cannot do this." Gen. Buyukanit noted (after TSK's operation into the north of Iraq ended), "in fact, loss of PKK terrorist organization is more than ours. Turkish Air Forces staged a very heavy bombardment on camps of terrorists. People want us to show body parts. But we won't do this. It is not humane to show body of a person torn into three pieces."Â

-- TWO AUTOMOTIVE GIANTS TO COME FOR DESIGN

Adoption of a draft law --which envisages important incentives for research and development-- at Parliament, Turkey will be the global design center of two automotive giants. Automotive Industry Association's Secretary General Ercan Tezer did not give the names of two giant companies but said, "from now on automotive design will also spread from Turkey to the world."

-- EXPECTATION FOR RENEWED MILITARY OPERATION

Even after the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) has pulled out its troops from Iraq's north, military hustle and bustle continued on the border. Region's people in Iraq's north are expecting that the TSK will renew its operation as heavy military equipment such as tanks and artillery units are still located in areas very close to the border.

-- BESIKTAS GRAB LEADERSHIP IN LEAGUE AFTER 137 WEEKS

Turkey's Besiktas football team toppled one of their archenemies on Sunday to claim the leadership in Turkish Super League after 137 weeks. Besiktas won a home-game against Galatasaray 1-0 to claim the top position for the first time almost in four years.

-- I KNEW DATE OF COMPLETION DATE

Commenting on the completion of the cross-border operation, President Abdullah Gul said, "of course I had information about it. Any influence of the United States is regardless of question."

-- ERDOGAN CONDEMNS BLOODY ATTACKS IN GAZA

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "Israeli defense minister paid a visit to Ankara. Turkey has conveyed its uneasiness over killing of civilians because of Israel's use of disproportionate force. Israeli minister was told that children are being killed. Those attacks do not have any humanitarian or legal explanation. Turkey very clearly condemns this act of Israel. Turkey will take any necessary measure if necessary."

-- CELIK: WE CLOSE IT DOWN IF NECESSARY

Labor and Social Security Minister Faruk Celik, speaking about the death of people at Tuzla shipyards, said, "everything is done for safety of our people. If necessary we will close down the 44 shipyards." Celik said, "25 people died at the shipyards. This is a promising sector of Turkey. However, success should be based on job security."

-- THEY WERE NOT ON HOLIDAY ON ULUDAG FOR SKIING

The General Staff responded to criticisms on why troops returned from a cross-border operation earlier than expected, with photographs from the operation carried out on challenging geographical and severe winter conditions. The snow on the mountainous areas where troops staged the cross-border operation is under 1.5-2 meters in height. There was snowfall that turned into blizzard from time to time, and freezing cold. And the possibility to come across with PKK ambush at any time. The 23 photographs released by the General Staff indicate on which conditions the ground operation was staged. Military authorities said the target was to clean the area from terrorists and destroy Zap, the second biggest terrorist camp following Qandil. "We achieved this target," they also said. On the other hand, Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit said, "if they say we returned earlier than expected, they should stay there for 24 hours."

-- MEANINGFUL MESSAGE FROM SOLDIERS: IT HAS NOT ENDED YET

Here is an open message to criticisms that the operation lasted short. Turkish troops wrote a message on cannon balls shot at the terrorists. "It has not ended, it will continue."

-- ASSURANCE FROM UNITED STATES

As the operation continues, it was revealed that Kurdish leader Barzani was given the assurances that Turkish troops would withdraw within a few days. Kurdish leader Barzani started to launch initiatives to prevent a second operation. Barzani called U.S. Ambassador Crocker during the operation, and claimed that Turkey's target was long-term operation, yet Crocker told him that they were given assurances from Turkey that the operation would be concluded within a few days.

-- BAYKAL: WE COULD NOT REACH LASTING TARGETS

Deniz Baykal, chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), said military dimension of the operation was performed successfully, however there were some problems regarding its political dimension. Baykal said the operation could not provide access to permanent targets".

Besiktas defeated Galatasaray 1-0 at Inonu Stadium scored by Nobre. After this match, Besiktas became the new leaders of the league first time in last four years.

-- DEMONSTRATION FOR COMPLETED OPERATION

Supporters of Democratic Society Party (DTP) --also including DTP deputy Sirri Sakik-- who want to protest the operation of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) in the north of Iraq which ended on Friday, wanted to stage demonstration at Istanbul's Taksim Square. Police intervened in the group with pepper gas. When demonstrators responded, a clash erupted. Many demonstrators were detained.

-- WHAT HAPPENED DURING GATES' VISIT TO ANKARA?

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates was utterly disappointed during his recent visit to Turkish capital Ankara. The main motive behind secretary's visit was to convince Turkey to send troops to Afghanistan. But Ankara firmly rejected the request. Chairman of U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff was set to visit Baghdad on Monday on the same day Iranian President is in the Iraqi capital. U.S. is also seeking the support of Iran in Afghanistan and in Pakistan.

-- GREEKS SEEKING DIALOGUE WITH TURKEY

A survey in Greece has shown that 75 percent of the country's people were seeking dialogue to find a settlement to a number of disputes between Turkey and Greece. Whereas 58 percent of the participants said a war might erupt between the two countries.
