-- FENERBAHCE RE-SIGN GERMAN COACH
Germany's Christof Daum cut a reported 3.5 million euro deal with Turkey's Fenerbahce as the soccer team's coach. The German coach led Fenerbahce to claim the championship title in two consecutive seasons in 2004 an 2005 and narrowly missed another one in 2006. "I have received a good offer from one of the biggest teams of Europe and I have agreed," Daum was reported to have told his former boss Wolfgang Overath, president of German team, FC Koln.

-- ITALIAN CARICATURIST RECEIVES TOP PRIZE IN TURKEY COMPETITION
Italian caricaturist Alessandro Gatto has won the first prize in an international caricature competition organized by Turkey's Aydin Dogan Foundation. More than 1,100 caricaturists participated in the event that saw Turkish caricaturist, Kursat Zaman, take second prize.

-- OCEAN SIGNALS FIRST TRACES
Pieces from the wreckage of the Air France plane that crashed into Atlantic Ocean were spotted 650 km off the shore of the Fernando de Noronha islands of Brazil. It was learned that 19 French passengers aboard the plane won the trip to Brazil on a quiz show. Anadolu University Rector Prof. Fevzi Surmeli, while commenting on Turkish harpist Fatma Ceren Necipoglu, who was also on the plane, said, "she was the heart of the harp."

-- BASBUG: WE HAVE REACHED A SPECIAL SUCCESS TO ROOT OUT PKK
Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug said the north of Iraq was no longer a nest for the terrorist organization. Gen. Basbug said the military has come to a special point to eradicate PKK. Speaking at a Turkish-American Business Council meeting in Washington D.C., Gen. Basbug said, "The PKK has realized it could not achieve its targets with weapons."

-- BAD LUCK SAVES HER
Harpist Meric Donuk would also have been aboard the Air France plane that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean if she had found a sponsor. Meric Donuk, a friend of harpist Ceren Necipoglu who was a passenger on the flight that crashed into the ocean, was planning to attend the same festival together with Necipoglu. "I wanted to attend the festival but I could not find a sponsor. If I had gone, I would have been on the same plane. I don't want to think about it," Donuk said.

The four biggest soccer teams of Turkey are trying to solve their "coach" problems before looking for players. Fenerbahce made a deal with Christoph Daum who was sent away by the team in 2006. Besiktas are waiting for Mustafa Denizli's answer, while Galatasaray are conducting talks with Spain's Juande Ramos. Meanwhile, Trabzonspor had to give up Senol Gunes after the Seoul board rejected their offer.

-- ANAP-DP SUMMIT
The first tangible step will be taken for the unification of the Democrat Party, or DP, and the Motherland Party, or ANAP, following the election of Husamettin Cindoruk as DP leader. Cindoruk and ANAP chairman Salih Uzun will meet to start the process. Uzun said, "This is not an ordinary joining but an establishment of the center." It was also reported that former ANAP leader Mesut Yilmaz will also attend the meeting.

-- GENERAL BASBUG: WE WILL FIGHT TILL PKK IS ERADICATED
Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug, speaking at a conference on Turkish-U.S. relations, said the presence of the PKK in the north of Iraq was posing a threat not only for Turkey, but also for Iraq. Gen. Basbug said this also had a negative impact on Turkish-U.S. relations.

-- TOP TURKISH, U.S. GENERALS DISCUSS PKK, PAKISTAN
The terrorist organization PKK and the situation in Pakistan were issues that topped the agenda of a Washington D.C. conference attended by Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug and U.S. Joint Chief of Staff General Michael Mullen. Basbug called for stronger U.S. cooperation to eradicate the PKK presence in Iraq's north, as Mullen asked for Turkish support in tackling demanding problems in Pakistan.

-- COCA-COLA CEO PESSIMIST ON GLOBAL CRISIS
Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent voiced pessimism over the prospects of recovery from a global financial crisis, saying "The light has yet to be seen at the end of the tunnel. But it is not the time to panic. One has to ask oneself: 'What can I do for my country?" Kent said.

The wreckage of the Air France plane that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean has been found. Relatives and friends of Turkish harpist Fatma Ceren Necipoglu, who was aboard the plane, have been deeply saddened. Anadolu University's rector Prof. Fevzi Surmeli said, "Necipoglu was the heart of the harp".

-- SEVENTH SWINE FLU CASE IN TURKEY
The seventh swine flu case has been reported in Turkey. According to the Turkish Health Ministry, all seven people infected with the InfluenzaA/H1N1 virus arrived in Turkey from the United States.

-- PLANE BURNED AND CRASHED
The remains of the Airbus A330-200 plane, which was carrying 228 passengers, were found 650 km off the Brazilian coast. It has been reported that all the passengers on board died in the crash. Upon the statements of a pilot from TAM Airlines who claimed that he saw a fire ball in the sky, officials said the plane might have started burning prior to the crash. It has also been revealed that Turkish passenger, Fatma Ceren Necipoglu who lost her life in the accident, left Rio de Janeiro early for her students.

After sending away Spanish coach Luis Aragones, soccer team Fenerbahce agreed with German coach Christoph Daum once again. It has been revealed that Daum, who previously said that he had received a good offer from a big team, cut a deal with Fenerbahce at the weekend. The German coach will get an annual 3.5 million euros from Fenerbahce.
