-- GIANT STEP FROM TURKEY FOR AIRPLANE ENGINE PRODUCTION
Tusas Engine Industries Inc. which can now manufacture all parts of an airplane engine with its own capabilities took another big step in its partnership with world's giant airplane engine producer GE. Engines will be designed for airplanes of the future in the Research and Development Center which was inaugurated in the Gebze Technology Free Zone.

-- ISTANBUL'S NEW POLICE CHIEF CAPKIN: WE WILL ACCOMPLISH GOOD THINGS
Huseyin Capkin, who was appointed as the new police chief of Istanbul, commented on his new assignment: "Our fist aim is to enhance peace in Istanbul a step further. We will work towards this with a police force of 30,000 officers. Together with the media, our people and this quality team, we will accomplish good things."

-- SECOND MEETING WITH UNDERSECRETARY OF NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE ORGANIZATION
Emre Taner, undersecretary of the National Intelligence Organization, or MIT --who held a one-hour meeting with Prime Ministry Undersecretary Efkan Ala two days ago-- also held a meeting with Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan for 45 minutes yesterday. Interior Minister Besir Atalay was also at Prime Ministry during the meeting.

-- HELICOPTER CRASHES: TWO PEOPLE REPORTED MISSING
A firefighter helicopter --which took off with three Ukrainian and a Turkish pilot as well as Turkish a forester aboard in the western province of Aydin-- crashed while it was siphoning water from Geyikli Dam. The three Ukrainians were rescued. The Turkish pilot and forester were reported missing.

-- HEADQUARTERS FOCUSED ON SIGNATURE
The General Staff launched an investigation into the document that has shaken Turkey. A four-people technical team will analyze the signature, claimed to be that of Colonel Dursun Cicek, under 14 separate criteria. In the criminal analysis the experts will examine whether the signature was fake, and the way of imitation in case it was bogus. The study is expected to be concluded within a few days.

-- THERE ARE 682,000 PEOPLE HAVING HIGH IQ
As part of a study carried out by Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, or TUBITAK, there are 682,000 people under-24 with high IQs, constituting 2 percent of the country’s population.

-- WORLD BANK MANAGING DIRECTOR IS MORE OPTIMISTIC THAN US
World Bank Managing Director Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, while speaking at a High Consultation Board meeting of the Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association, or TUSIAD, in the Aegean resort town of Bodrum, said Turkey had accomplished significant reforms after the economic crisis in 2001, standing firm against the recent financial crisis. She said Turkey had overcome severe problems due to primary surplus and stock exchange reserves. "Turkey is a very strong country and it should appreciate it. Turkey may have more important leadership characteristics in its region and in the world."

-- NEW CHIEF POLICE OF ANKARA
Orhan Ozdemir, who was appointed as the new chief police of Ankara, has been serving in central Anatolian province of Kayseri for 6 years. Ozdemir (57), who pioneered use of technology in the police department, has received many courses in the United States and Britain. With help of those technology, the rate of general crimes dropped 8 percent, and rate of juvenile crimes fell 16 percent in Kayseri.

-- IT CRASHES WHILE GETTING WATER TO PUT OUT FIRE
A KOMOV-32 helicopter crashed while collecting water from Geyik Reservoir in Milas to put out a forest fire that broke out in Cine town of Aegean province of Aydin. Pilot, co-pilot and flight technician of the helicopter that was rented from Ukraine survived. Retired Squadron leader Tanju Tezgel and forester Ali Tekin were trapped in the helicopter after they failed to free themselves from their safety restraints.

-- BEST IS ESENBOGA
The Airports Council International in Europe, or ACI Europe, selected Esenboga International Airport in Ankara as "the best airport" of Europe. The Best Airport Awards cover 4 categories. Esenboga Airport, which was operated by TAV Holding, was chosen the best in the "5-10 million passenger" category.

-- TURKEY TO BE ENGINE BASE
Tusas Engine Industries, or TEI, of Turkey --which manufactures complex pieces for more than 560 military and commercial aircraft engines in Turkey-- now aims to produce all pieces of an aircraft engine thanks to the Turkey Technology Center. The target is to make Turkey a center for aircraft engine production.

-- HELICOPTER CRASHES IN MUGLA
A helicopter in Mugla crashed while fighting a forest fire that broke out in Milas. While three Russian pilots survived, Ret. Major Tanju Tezgel and forester Ali Ekin are reported missing.

-- ERDOGAN WAS CONVINCED: "TURKEY YEAR" PROJECT TO CONTINUE
Premier Tayyip Erdogan has convinced Culture Minister Ertugrul Gunay and Turkey's Chief EU Negotiator Egemen Bagis, who called for the cancellation of the "Turkey Year" activities planned in France over French President Nicholas Sarkozy’s opposition to Turkey's accession to the EU, to continue with the organization. Gunay and Bagis argued that cancellation of the "Turkey Year" activities would give a trump card to Sarkozy's hand.

-- SIGNATURE BELONGS TO COL. CICEK WITH 90 PERCENT POSSIBILITY
The initial report of the Gendarmerie Criminal Laboratory about the signature on the "treason document" has completed. The report revealed that the signature samples of Nav. Colonel Dursun Cicek matches 90 percent with the signature on the document. The examination of the signature samples in the laboratory and the signature on the "treason document" that stirred Turkey is still underway. The process for the final report continues in the Gendarmerie Criminal Laboratory, which is far superior to laboratories in Europe with its equipment and experience. It was striking that two other officers have their signatures on "Action Plan to Fight Reactionary Movement" document. This gave rise to doubts as to whether the document, authenticity of which is at center of wide controversy, was prepared within the chain of command.

-- THEIR FINAL DESTINIES HAVE BEEN ALIKE
A firefighting helicopter which was battling a forest fire that broke out in Aydin, crashed while refilling its water tank. Ukrainian pilots Victor Lytuynow, Ugocheston Sheidtobitov and Volodymr Kosh have been rescued, while Turkish pilot and a forester are missing. The pilot, Tanju Tezgel, who is reported missing in the lake was the teacher of the pilot who was killed together with Grand Unity Party leader Muhsin Yazicioglu in a recent helicopter crash.
