--LARGE SCALE DETENTION
Anti-terrorist squad waged operations in Ankara, Istanbul, Trabzon and Antalya within the scope of the Ergenekon investigation on Tuesday morning and it caused a great shock in the country. 21 people including retired Gen. Hursit Tolon; Ankara representative of Cumhuriyet daily Mustafa Balbay; chairperson of Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) Sinan Aygun and Kemalist Thought Association (ADD) head retired Gen. Sener Eruygur, were taken into custody in simultaneous raids. Three more people are being sought.
--RULING AKP MUST BE CLOSED DOWN, YALCINKAYA
Turkey's Chief Public Prosecutor Abdurrahman Yalcinkaya made his verbal statement on closure case against Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Ankara. Chief Public Prosecutor's verbal statement at the Constitutional Court lasted one and a half hours. Yalcinkaya said AKP wanted to bring Shariah order in Turkey and there was imminent danger regarding this. AKP must be closed down, he stated.

--POLICE RAID ON TOP GENERALS
Turkey was shocked once again with custodies in Ergenekon probe. Early in the morning on Tuesday, former commander of Gendarmerie General Command retired Gen. Sener Eruygur was taken into custody in Ankara. In the meantime, other police teams detained retired Gen. Hursit Tolon.
Ankara office chief of daily Cumhuriyet Mustafa Balbay and chairman of Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) Sinan Aygun were other figures taken into custody in Ankara. Editor-in-chief of daily Tercuman Ufuk Buyukcelebi was detained in Istanbul. Buyukcelebi was taken out of his home handcuffed.
--MYSTERIOUS GLOCK AT AYGUN'S OFFICE
ATO Assembly Chairman Nuri Gurgur claimed that a plot was being formulated against ATO Chairman Sinan Aygun.
Gurgur said water heater at Aygun's office was gone out of order a few days ago and a Glock gun dropped to floor from the heater during the repair."If the gun was not found accidentally, it would be found today during police search. And it would be impossible to explain the gun," Gurgur said.
--MORNING RAIDS HIT STOCK MARKET
Operation Ergenekon rocked markets too. Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB) index dropped over 6 percent within the day. The stock market recovered a little bit at the end of afternoon session and closed at 33,208 points, however, daily loss was 5.36 percent.

--TURKEY'S EU MEMBERSHIP IN 2014
A new report on Turkey has been published in Britain. According to the report, unless a solution is found in Cyprus, Turkey's EU membership seems to be impossible. Turkey could become an EU member after six years at the earliest.
--TERIM TO CONTINUE COACHING TURKISH NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
Chairman of the Turkish Football Federation Hasan Dogan announced Tuesday that Fatih Terim will continue coaching the Turkish national football team. "We had a contract with Terim until the year 2010. I offered Terim to stay as the coach for our team until 2012 and he accepted," Dogan said.

--SIMULTANEOUS OPERATIONS IN FIVE PROVINCES
Police staged simultaneous operations in five provinces and detained seven people in Ankara, nine in Istanbul, two in Antalya, two people in Erzurum and one person in Trabzon within the scope of Ergenekon probe. The detainees are being questioned at Anti-Terrorism Office.
--STOCK EXCHANGE DROPS SHARPLY
Sharp decline in European stock exchanges and detentions within the scope of Ergenekon investigation in Turkey caused a remarkable fall in the Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB) and it closed the day with a 5.36 percent loss. IMKB decreased to 33,208 points, the lowest level during the past two years.

The Ergenekon investigation turned into an operation to silence the Turkish opposition. A total of 23 people, including retired generals Sener Eruygur and Hursit Tolon, Cumhuriyet daily's Mustafa Balbay and chairman of the Ankara Chamber of Trade Sinan Aygun, were taken into custody. For the first time in Turkey's history, the homes of two Turkish generals were raided.

A delegation from the Socialist International's Ethics Committee will soon arrive in Turkey to investigate if the Turkish Republican People's Party (CHP) complies with the rules and regulations of the Socialist International. The committee arriving in Turkey will have four members.

--FATIH TERIM'S CONTRACT EXTENDED TO 2012
President of Turkish Football Federation (TFF) Hasan Dogan said Turkish national soccer team coach Fatih Terim's contract has been extended by two years to 2012. Dogan told reporters after TFF Board of Executives meeting in Istanbul that Terim agreed to stay in his post until 2012.
"We had a contract with him due 2010. I offered him to extend it for two more years till 2012. He said he was happy to serve as coach... and accepted to continue coaching the national team," said Dogan.
--TURKISH EXPORTS ON THE RISE
Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) announced exports from Turkey in June 2008 went up by 35 percent when compared to the same month last year and reached 12.7 billion dollars. TIM Chairman Oguz Satici said exports between January and June went up by 36.07 percent over the same period last year and reached 67.1 billion dollars.
