--PREMIER THANKS BAGHDAD AND NORTH OF IRAQ

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was welcomed by his Iraqi counterpart Nuri al-Maliki and other ministers at the airport in Baghdad. Erdogan had a meeting with al-Maliki and they discussed the fight against terrorist the organization PKK.

PM Erdogan said, "Eradicating the PKK terrorist organization is the most important task of both Turkey and Iraq." He said, "We are thankful for the support of the Iraqi government and the regional administration in north of Iraq on the issue of PKK terrorism."

--FUNERAL TAKES PLACE FOR THREE TURKISH POLICE OFFICERS

An official funeral ceremony has been held for three Turkish police officers killed in a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul took place in front of the Istanbul Police Department with the participation of state and military officials. The bodies of Erdal Oztas, Nedim Calik and Mehmet Onder Sacmalioglu were sent to their hometowns for burial after the funeral ceremony.

--CURTAIN OF MIST IN BLOODY SHOOTOUT

The fourth suspect of the bloody raid on the U.S. Consulate General, Cebrail Kosanarslan --an unlicensed taxi driver-- surrendered on Thursday. Kosanarslan, who turned himself in last night, dropped the three assailants near the consulate, in exchange for money. The car which was used in the attack, a Ford Fiesta with the license plate 34 VS 7592 was found in the Bagcilar district of Istanbul.

--PASHAS IN SAME SECTION WITH PKK AND MAFIA

Retired generals, Sener Eruygur and Hursit Tolon became neighbors with members of the terrorist organization PKK and mafia leaders in the high security 2nd section of the F-type prison in the northwestern province of Kocaeli. This sections houses PKK heads, Haydar Ergul and Hamza Bindal, as well as mafia leaders like Alaatin Cakici and Sedat Peker. But because of the structural design of the prison, it is not possible for the PKK leaders to come into contact with the detained generals.

--FUGITIVE TERRORIST CAUGHT

The getaway car, Ford Fiesta, involved in the attack in front of the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul was found in Istanbul’s Ikitelli district. The fugitive, who drove the car in the attack, was identified by his finger prints on the car and detained in the district of Kucukcekmece.

--ERDOGAN: "OUR TASK IS TO DESTROY PKK"

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan paid a surprising visit to Iraq on Thursday. Delivering a speech in Baghdad, Erdogan said, "We are thankful for support of the Iraqi government and the regional administration in north of Iraq on the issue of PKK terrorism." Erdogan said, "Destroying the PKK terrorist organization is the most important task of both Turkey and Iraq."

--PM ERDOGAN FLIES TO BAGHDAD SECRETLY

PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan paid a daily working visit to Iraq on Thursday. Erdogan, who is the first Turkish PM to visit Iraq in the last 18 years, kept his departure time secret for security reasons. The Prime Ministry Press Center announced that Erdogan would meet Interior Minister Besir Atalay at 10:00 a.m. But Erdogan and the accompanying delegation departed from Ankara at 9:30 a.m. The time of departure was told to reporters at the last minute.

--TWO DEVELOPMENTS IN ERGENEKON

The 2,500 pages long indictment of the Ergenekon Investigation was loaded onto the National Judiciary Network. Chief Prosecutor Engin is expected to make a briefing on the charges and the penalties. The assigned court will decide whether to accept or reject the indictment in 15 days time.

Ret. Gen. Hursit Tolon denied charges that he was collecting documents against Gen. Yasar Buyukanit. Tolon said there were only results of an ear scan in the archive folder. He said "the folder was sent to me." Tolon will appeal his arrest through his lawyer on Friday.

--STRATEGIC AGREEMENT WITH IRAQ

"Strategic Relations High Council Agreement" between Turkey and Iraq was signed by PM Erdogan who visited Iraq and Iraqi PM Nuri al-Maliki. Under the agreement, the prime ministers of Turkey and Iraq will meet once every year, relevant ministers of both countries will meet three times every year.

PM Erdogan thanked the Iraqi central government and the regional administration in the north of Iraq for their support to Turkey in its fight against terrorist organization PKK.

--FOREIGN MINISTRY BY-PASSED

The views of the Foreign Ministry on PM Erdogan's participation in the Union for the Mediterranean Summit in France on June 12 and 13 were not taken. After Erdogan's conversation with French President Sarkozy, the Foreign Ministry was only informed that Erdogan would attend the Paris summit.

The fourth terrorist, who took part in the attack on the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul, has been captured. The assailant was questioned at police head quarters.

--OZKOK BRIEFS PRESIDENT

Turkish President Abdullah Gul met former Chief of General Staff retired general, Hilmi Ozkok over lunch at the Presidential Palace. Replying to questions of reporters after the meeting, Ozkok said Gul and he discussed the general situation in Turkey during the meeting.
