-- DAVOS SPIRIT DIES
A session in Davos that was held to contribute to Gaza peace stunned everybody. Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan reacted harshly to Israeli President Shimon Peres's angry attitude and high tone. Erdogan criticized the moderator as Peres had 25 minutes while he was only given 12 minutes. Erdogan asked one minute to speak. "Mr. Peres, you are older than me. Your voice is too loud," Erdogan said. "I know that it is because of a guilty conscience. When it comes to killing, you know very well how to kill. I know very well how you hit and killed children at the beaches." Erdogan also lashed out at the audience who applauded Peres after his speech: "I also condemn those people who applaud this cruelty. I believe that applauding the people who killed children is a crime against humanity."

-- TWO IMPORTANT DECISIONS IN PHONE TAPPING
The Constitutional Court has annulled prime minister's mandate in law on telephone tapping. The court ruled that the prime minister would need a joint decision with the president and the transportation minister to appoint the president of the Telecommunication Board and his power to assign the commission to supervise wiretapping by the intelligence agency, police and gendarmerie. The ruling on prime minister's authority came three years after former President Ahmet Necdet Sezer asked for cancellation of the clauses.

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan reacted harshly to a panel moderator who cut off his remarks in response to President Shimon Peres of Israel who defended Israeli offensive against Gaza during a special session on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Erdogan stalked off the stage saying "I find it very sad that people applaud what you said. You killed people." During a panel discussion on Gaza attended by world leaders in Davos, Erdogan criticised Israel, "while Israel bombed Gaza, the humanity remained silent. Palestine does not have a bit of weapons Israel has. Even schools of the United Nations were hit. I am a prime minister who expressly stated that anti-Semitism is a crime against humanity. The aid sent by Turkey was kept waiting at border crossings for 15 days."

"Mr. Peres, you are older than me. Your voice is too loud because of your guilty conscience. You kill people. I remember the children who died on beaches. I remember two former prime ministers who said they felt very happy when they were able to enter Palestine on tanks. Your holy book says you shall not kill," he said as he walked off the stage. Erdogan also said that he would not come to Davos again.

Israeli President Shimon Peres called Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and expressed his regret after the debate during a panel discussion on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Peres said that he did not mean to criticize, and he apologized for any misunderstandings.

While getting into his car after leaving the session, telephone of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan rang. It was Israeli President Shimon Peres on the phone. Peres said, "I feel very sorry over what happened. I respect you and Turkey. I raised my voice because I thought there was a hearing problem. There are important ties between Turkey and Israel. Our cooperation will continue. I will hold a press conference tomorrow (today)."

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan who criticized President Shimon Peres of Israel harshly during a panel discussion on Gaza on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, has stalked off the stage after a panel moderator cut off his remarks. During the panel discussion, Erdogan criticized Israel for using excessive force against Gaza. In response, President Peres said, "What would you do if you were to have in Istanbul every night a hundred rockets?" Peres also indicated that it was not Israel but Hamas which prevented dispatch of aid to Gaza. Later, Erdogan said, "Mr. Peres, your voice is too loud because of your guilty conscience. When it comes to killing, you know it too well. I will not come to Davos again."

Turkey's top court has unanimously decided to cancel some rules of a law regarding telephone tapping allowing people or commission to be authorized specially by the prime minister to supervise telephone tapping. The Constitutional Court also ruled to cancel the authority of the prime minister to appoint communication chairman of the telecommunication.

-- AL QAEDA CLASHES WITH POLICE IN ISTANBUL
A member of the al-Qaida terrorism network has been killed and another one has been injured when a clash erupted between al-Qaida members and Turkish police in Istanbul. Police captured two terrorists as they tried to rob a post office branch in Istanbul. Police also seized four weapons.      Â

-- ERDOGAN ANGRY AT PERES, SAYS WILL NOT COME TO DAVOS AGAIN
Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's reaction to Israeli President Shimon Peres left its mark to the World Economic Forum in Davos. In a session on Gaza Erdogan slammed Israeli offensive and said talks should be held with Hamas. Peres, who took the floor after Erdogan, responded to him with a loud voice and blamed Hamas. Following Peres's applauded speech, Erdogan asked the moderator to speak but the moderator warned him. Erdogan was steamed up. "Mr. Peres, you are older than me. Your voice is too loud," Erdogan said.

"I know that it is because of a guilty conscience. When it comes to killing, you know very well how to kill," Erdogan told Peres. "I also condemn those people who applaud this cruelty," he added. Complaining that every panelist had 12 minutes to speak but Peres had 25, Erdogan said, "I will never come to Davos again." Later, Peres called Erdogan on the phone and said he was sorry about his loud voice.

The most accurate figure on the impact of the global financial crisis on employment came from the Social Security Agency. According to figures, 141,000 Turkish people have become jobless since October 2008. Unregistered unemployed people are not included to these figures, which cover October and November 2008 only.
