-- AMMUNITION UNEARTHED FOR THE SECOND TIME
Lieutenant colonel Mustafa Donmez, at whose house in Sapanca town of the northwestern Sakarya province, 22 hand grenades were found, surrendered to security forces in the capital Ankara. Upon the discovery of several sketches at Donmez's house, security teams searched the backyard of a run-down house in Ankara's Yenikent town and found a significant amount of ammunition hidden in a well. An excavation will be carried out in the backyard today.

-- ARMY DENIES, MIT GIVES NO RESPONSE
General Staff denied the recent statements delivered by former chief of the special forces Ibrahim Sahin who alleged that "he had been offered to be the undersecretary of a new formation to be established in an effort to combat terrorism". On the other hand, the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) did not respond to Sahin's allegations that "he had informed officials regarding the attack against Aktutun military outpost in advance".

-- TURKEY GETS FAIR-PLAY AWARD FROM FIFA
Turkey was given an honorary award based on a World Cup qualifier game it played with Armenia. FIFA has decided to present Turkey and Armenia with the "2008 fair-play prize" due to their contribution to world peace.

-- NEW CACHE OF MUNITIONS, GRENADES UNCOVERED IN ERGENEKON PROBE
Turkish police found a new cache of munitions and hand grenades late Monday as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged criminal network involving bureaucrats and military personnel, which has become known as "Ergenekon". Police impounded the hidden stash of hand grenades, rifle grenades, booby traps, more than 800 G-3 automatic rifle shells, flares, smoke and tear bombs in a well in the yard of an abandoned house in Yenikent district in the capital Ankara. The latest discovery came after police seized sketches from a lieutenant colonel who turned himself in. Lieut. Col. Mustafa Donmez was at large until Monday. Police found weapons, plastic bombs and munitions last week in the Golbasi district in Ankara.

-- LAZ PEOPLE IN TURKEY TO APPEAL FOR TV BROADCAST IN THEIR LANGUAGE
Turks of Laz-descent, who mainly live in the Black Sea region, have begun to collect petitions to appeal for TV broadcasts in their own language after the country's state-run television and radio network, TRT, started broadcasting in Kurdish earlier this year. Petitioners said the "Laz language had been spoken on this soil for a thousand years."

-- WORKING AGAIN
Some 22,000 workers resumed working in the automotive sector. Ulker and CarrefourSa made investments during the global economic crisis. Workers in Tofas, Renault, Ford Otosan and Toyota --which temporarily stopped manufacturing in December 2008 -- started operating again yesterday. German automotive giant CRH also stated that it would establish a factory, which would employ 400 people, in the northwestern province of Kocaeli. Also Ulker, a giant in the Turkish food sector, will open its infant food factory in Ankara today. Ulker invested 20 million TL in the project amid the crisis. Carrefour bought a local company with 12 markets in the northern province of Samsun.

-- VALLEY OF BETRAYAL
Police earlier found 22 bombs in the home lieutenant colonel Mustafa Donmez, who had fled from the authorites, but surrendered himself yesterday (within the scope of Ergenekon inquiry). Police dug at a site marked in a map drawn in the personal organizer of Donmez. Thirty hand grenades and some other ammunition were unearthed in the excavation in Zir Valley in the Sincan district of Ankara.

-- TUNNEL MISSION TO TURKISH SOLDIER
British newspaper, the Financial Times, wrote that Turkish soldiers would be in charge of the control of tunnels which are used for arm and equipment dispatch from Egypt to Gaza. The newspaper also wrote that Egypt, which prepared the ceasefire agreement, put pressure on Hamas about this issue. Furthermore, Lebanese television claimed that an agreement was established among Turkey, Egypt and Hamas.

Lieutenant colonel Mustafa Donmez, who hid 22 hand grenades and weapons in his house in Sapanca town of the northwestern province of Sakarya, was captured in Ankara on Sunday (within the scope of Ergenekon probe). A second underground arsenal was found in the Sincan district of Ankara according to the documents of Donmez.       Â

Police uncovered 30 hand grenades, nine smoke bombs, 10 flares, and more than 800 G-3 automatic rifle shells.

The downsizing demand triggered by a global financial crisis has hit industrial production in Turkey as capacity utilization plunged 16.4 percent in December to 64.7 percent. The latest figure is the lowest one in 18 years.     Â

Some new ammunition has been discovered in the Ergenekon inquiry. After the fugitive lieutenant colonel Mustafa Donmez surrendered to security forces yesterday, an excavation was carried out in Zir Valley of Ankara's Yenikent town based on the sketches previously found at Donmez's house. During the excavation, 30 hand grenades, 9 smoke bombs and 800 G-3 bullets were unearthed. The discovery of the ammunition was broadcast live on TRT TV channel. Within the scope of Ergenekon inquiry, two colonels, who were detained in connection with the "military quarters" of Ergenekon, which were deemed as the military structuring of the organization, were arrested. Donmez was also sent to prison yesterday.

-- QUESTIONS ABOUT "DIARIES"
Former head of the National Security Council retired Gen. Tuncer Kilinc, who remained silent during police questioning, gave brief responses to questions at the prosecutor's office. Kilinc was asked about the "diaries" alleged to belong to retired Gen. Ozden Ornek, as well as his relationship with retired Gen. Sener Eruygur. Ornek said that he only visited Ornek on one occasion in order to congratulate him after his appointment.

Police dug out the hidden stash from the yard of an abandoned house in the Yenikent district of the capital Ankara.
