-- DAGLICA REVENGE

Kadri Celik with code name "Ape Huseyin", who had given orders for the attack on a military unit that killed 12 Turkish soldiers, was killed during the clashes at Cemco valley the other day, sources said. Celik, who attended terrorist organization PKK in 1986, was responsible for the training of terrorists. Celik's death will be clear once the region is totally under the control.

-- CHP,DSP APPLY FOR CANCELLATION OF HEADSCARF AMENDMENT

A total of 111 deputies from Republican People's Party (CHP) and Democratic Left Party (DSP) and independent deputy Kamer Genc asked the Constitutional Court to annul and stay execution of the amendments adopted by the parliament to articles 42 and 10 of the Constitution. Regarding the application, Constitutional Court deputy chairman Osman Alifeyyaz Paksut said the court expected everybody to act with respect and confidence till a decision is reached on the issue.

-- HEAVY BLOW TO PKK

The sixth day of a ground operation launched by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) against terrorist PKK in north of Iraq witnessed the hottest clashes. 77 PKK terrorists were killed while five Turkish soldiers were martyred. The total number of PKK terrorists killed reached 230. A total of 27 Turkish soldiers, including three village guards, have been martyred.

-- TURKCELL: NEGOTIATIONS WITH SYRIATEL CONTINUE

Turkcell announced Wednesday negotiations with Syria's biggest mobile phone company Syriatel are continuing. Turkcell is planning to acquire Syriatel. Negotiations between Turkcell and Syriatel began last December.

-- HEAVY BLOW IN SIX DAYS

Turkish soldiers accelerated the ground operation as the snowfall stopped. 2000 commandos set out with M-60 tanks to enter the main camp in the Zap valley. The most intense skirmishes took place in the Zap and Cemco. 5 soldiers were martyred. Thus, the total number of martyrs reached 24. Turkish Armed Forces announced that 77 terrorists were killed. Thus, the number of terrorists that were killed reached 230. It was claimed that the terrorist code named "Ape Huseyin" Kadri Celik who planned the ambush to Turkish soldiers in Daglica was among the terrorists killed. Celik was among the PKK leaders special forces was after.

-- GUL: WITHOUT THIS OPERATION THERE WOULD BE MORE MARTYRS

Turkish President Abdullah Gul said that Turkey had no intention to invade Iraq. "Our aim is to eradicate this threat to our country. If we hadn't done this on time, there would be more martyrs," said Gul. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said Turkish Army should finish the operation in one or two weeks and leave Iraq.

-- NEW 200 TL BANKNOTES

New Turkish Lira (YTL) banknotes, currently in circulation, will be replaced by Turkish Lira (TL) banknotes in 2009. New banknotes with the value of 200 TL will be issued in 2009. Presently, the biggest banknote in Turkey is 100 TL.

-- FOREIGN INVESTORS IN TURKEY MAKE PROFIT OF 22 BN USD

-- PROTECTION TO OZCAN

A committee consisting of Minister of Education Huseyin Celik and three Higher Board of Education (YOK) members will give the decision for the trial of YOK Chairman Ozcan. It is widely belived that Minister Celik will not allow the investigation and the case would be taken to the Council of State.

Chairman of the Inter-university Board Prof. Mustaf Akaydin said half of the university presidents who allowed students wearing turban to universities did so involuntarily. Akaydin said especially at universities in the east, university presidents were under intense sectarian pressure.

-- USA: RETURN IN 2 WEEKS, THINK OF A POLITICAL SOLUTION

U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said it was quite important that the Turkish soldiers shall leave Iraq in one or two weeks and added that just a military operation would not be sufficient. Delivering a statement before he left for capital Ankara, Gates for the first time talked about a "period" regarding the cross-border operation waged by Turkish Armed Forces to the north of Iraq. He said it was of great importance that Turkish soldiers completed the military operation as soon as possible and then left the region.

-- HEADSCARF ON COURT, RECTORS ANGRY WITH OZCAN

While Republican People's Party (CHP) applied to the Constitutional Court upon the endeavours to free the headscarf ban, the tension still continues in universities. Students chanted slogans against each other in Mediterranean province of
 Isparta and western province of Aydin. Meanwhile, Ege University of Aegean province of Izmir filed a criminal complaint about Higher Education Council (YOK) chairman Yusuf Ziya Ozcan, who gave orders to universities to free the lift the headscarf ban.

-- APE HUSEYIN COULD NOT ESCAPE FROM CEMCO

Kadri Celik with code name "Ape Huseyin", who had given orders for the attack on a military unit in Daglica region of Hakkari's Yuksekova town during which 12 Turkish soldiers were martyred, was killed at Cemco valley. During the clashes, a total of 30 terrorists were killed together with Celik.

-- GIANTS OF CLASSICAL MUSIC TO GIVE CONCERT IN ISTANBUL

"Vienna-Berlin Philharmonic Friends", comprising of members of Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, will give a concert at Istanbul's Cemal Resit Rey (CRR) Concert Hall on March 6th. Renowned conductor Simon Rattle desired to conduct a concert on his 50th birthday which would be performed by musicians of these two prestigious orchestras. Upon Rattle's request, "Vienna-Berlin Philharmonic Friends" was formed.
