After meeting Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev in Moscow, President Abdullah Gul gave important messages. Gul said, "We are opening a new page with Russia." Gul also said that two countries agreed to use Russian ruble and Turkish lira in their bilateral trade.
-- MINISTER SAYS PROSECUTORS TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST ILLEGAL TAPPING
Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim spoke about the most important issue in Turkey in recent days. He said, "some are putting a device in some other's pockets and tapping them. This has no legal ground. Then they make the records public. This is a crime against private life and a crime against freedom of communication. Prosecutors should take action."

Turkish President Abdullah Gul and his Russian counterpart Dmitriy Medvedev signed on Friday an important declaration in Moscow. The declaration foresees raising bilateral relations to the highest level possible and establishing very strong partnership in all fields.

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan announced that the government would launch the compromise process on a new constitution in April. Erdogan received a group of students at the Esenboga Airport of Ankara before flying to central province of Sivas. Students asked, "When will you save us from this coup constitution?", and Erdogan answered, "April."
-- MEDVEDEV: RUSSIA WANTS TO IMPROVE COOPERATION WITH TURKEY IN ATOMIC ENERGY
Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev said that there was a multi-dimensional cooperation between Russia and Turkey. Medvedev also said that Russia wanted to boost cooperation with Turkey in atomic energy and electricity.

-- AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY MAKES A POOR START IN NEW YEAR
The Turkish automotive industry made a poor start in the new year. Auto production dropped by 65.8 percent compared to January 2008. Auto sales throughout Turkey declined by 39 percent in January compared to the same month of last year.
-- TEMPERATURES TO DROP BY 6-7 DEGREES CELSIUS, SNOW ON WAY
Temperatures all across Turkey would drop by 6-7 degrees Celsius as of Saturday. Snow is expected in most parts of Turkey, beginning in the Marmara region as of the beginning of the new week.

The mayoral candidate of Republican People's Party (CHP) Murat Karayalcin leads the polls according to a survey conducted by a research firm. Had the voting taken place today, Karayalcin would receive 38.87 of all the votes in Ankara. The Justice and Development Party's (AKP) mayoral candidate would receive 38.08 percent of the votes in Ankara according to the research firm.

President Abdullah Gul signed a joint declaration with Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev in Moscow, and agreed to boost cooperation. Medvedev said, "We will enhance not only political but also commercial and humanitarian relations."

Turkey's automotive production was down 61.2 percent, and automotive exports dropped 64 percent in January 2009 over January 2008. The global economic crisis had grave impact on the automotive sector. The automotive production was down 61.2 percent and the automotive by-products production was down 65.8 percent. These figures indicate that the automotive industry went back five years.

-- VERY SPECIAL WELCOME AT KREMLIN
President Abdullah Gul and his spouse Hayrunnisa Gul are in Russia for a four-day formal visit, and Russia is implementing a very special protocol for them. Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev hosted a reception in Gul's honor, and Medvedev's spouse asked for a favor and had a tete-a-tete meeting with Hayrunnisa Gul. This was the first time at the Kremlin Palace when first ladies had a tete-a-tete meeting. President Gul will also visit Tatarstan. Making gestures one after the other during Gul's visit, Russia proposed Gul to visit Tatarstan. Russia, which was expected to be uneasy about Gul's visiting Tatarstan, made such a proposal before Turkey had suggested. This also indicated the importance Russia attached to Gul's visit. Two countries agreed to use Russian ruble and Turkish lira in trade, which is assessed as "strategic relationship."

Shares of Akbank and Sabanci Holding sharply dropped due to a problem among members of the Sabanci family. The loss was around 2.2 billion dollars in two days. After Sevket Sabanci and his children announced that they would sell their shares, the holding's assets lost 17.2 percent value in three days. Akbank's market value dropped by 1.6 billion dollars to 8.9 billion dollars.
