--THE END

Fenerbahce who already said farewell to the Champions League were defeated by Ukraine's Dynamo Kyiv 1-0 last night, and their dream for a place in the UEFA Cup ended.

 

--NOW PROLETARIAT MOVE FROM CHP

After main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) chairman Deniz Baykal's "chador and Islamic community" move, now "proletariat" move will be implemented in the party. The party will hold contacts with anti-Justice and Development Party (AKP) members of DISK (Confederation of Revolutionary Workers' Union), KESK (Confederation of Public Workers Trade Unions) and Turk-Is (Turkish Labor Unions).

--SINGLE LIST DEMOCRACY

The ruling AKP has only one candidate and only one list in 709 out of the 899 towns throughout Turkey. Two candidates will run in the upcoming elections in 2009 in 179 towns while there will be three candidates in 11 towns.

 

--TURKISH ACHIEVEMENT IN CANCER TREATMENT

The Ibn-i Sina Hospital in Ankara has been acknowledged as a "Reference Center" in Europe after it began to apply "radionuclide" therapy to lessen cancer tumors in the liver in the course of time. The therapy was applied for the first time in Turkey at the Gulhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) in April 2008. Then, it was successfully applied at the Ibn-i Sina Hospital of the Ankara University School of Medicine. The hospital has applied the therapy to more than 30 patients since the first trial in April.

--NO MORE HOPES FOR UEFA CUP FINAL

Fenerbahce were out of the European Champions League without a victory. Fenerbahce were defeated by Dynamo Kyiv of Ukraine 1-0 in the European Champions League Group G match.

--CHECHEN COMMANDER ASSASSINATED

Islam Canibekov, a former Chechen commander, has been assassinated in front of his house in Umraniye district of Istanbul. In September, another Chechen commander was also killed in Istanbul.

Google, the biggest search engine of the world, announced search trends of 2008 in Turkey and in the world. Accordingly, Vatan is among the top 10 web-sites which were searched the most in Turkey compared to the results of last year.

--DISCOVERY WHICH WILL CHANGE HISTORY IN SANLIURFA

-German archeologist Klaus Schmidt, who has been pursuing excavations in Gobekli Tepe in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa since 1994, announced the results of his studies. Gobekli Tepe, which is even older than pyramids with its 11,500-year-old remains, is the first place where human implemented the practice of agriculture.

--BAD PLAY OF FENERBAHCE

Fenerbahce have been defeated by Dynamo Kyiv of Ukraine in their last match in the European Champions League Group G. Fenerbahce's hopes for a chance at the UEFA Cup faded away.

--WORLD BANK ESTIMATES 1.7 PERCENT GROWTH RATE IN 2009

The World Bank has estimated that global economic growth would drop significantly in the industrialized and the developing countries. According to the World Bank, growth rate will drop from 4.6 percent in 2007 to 3 percent in 2008 and 1.7 percent in 2009.

--EAST FREEZING, WEST CHILLY

On the last days of Feast of Sacrifice holiday, weather will not be rainy but it will be cold. According to Meteorology, the weather today will be partly cloudy on the coasts of the Black Sea, Southeastern Anatolia, Mediterranean, Marmara and Aegean coasts. There will be fog in the inner provinces of Marmara, eastern Anatolia and Central Anatolia. The temperature will be zero degrees in eastern regions, while 15 degrees in the Aegean and 20 degrees in the Mediterranean regions.

--IDENTITIES SHOULD BE ASSURED

Kurds are also expecting a move from main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), which opened its doors to women wearing chador and headscarf prior to the local elections. Kurdish members of the CHP suggested that the Kurdish identity should be legally assured.

--ARMENIA MOVE FROM YOK

Higher Board of Education (YOK) contributed to Armenia move which was initiated with a soccer match between national teams of Turkey and Armenia. YOK will open Armenian language and literature department at universities in Turkey next year. Trakya and Nevsehir universities will accept a total of 40 students to that department. Also Bogazici University has been teaching Armenian language as an elective course since last year.

--GOOD NEWS FROM MANISA

Oil was found at Sarikiz-2 well which is three kilometers from Alasehir town of the western province of Manisa. The oil at the well is of high quality, and there is 10 million barrels of reserve. Turkey's annual oil need is 220 million barrels.
