--TURKISH CYPRUS IN REVERSE GEAR
Diplomatic relations between Turkey and the Turkish Cyprus has dropped to the charge d'affairs level. It is because Turkish Cyprus has not appointed an ambassador to Ankara for 3-1/2 months and Turkey has not appointed an ambassador to Lefkosa for 2-2/5 months. Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat wants the appointment of ambassadors and foreign representatives to be made within his discretion, but Turkish Cyprus Foreign Minister Turgay Avci objects to this request, causing the crisis.

--EITHER PLACE IN UEFA CUP OR NOTHING
Fenerbahce will take on Ukraine's Dinamo Kiev in their last match at Group G in Champions League in Kiev tonight. Fenerbahce must win the game to earn a transfer to UEFA Cup. Florian Meyer of Germany will be the referee of the match.

--"TURKEY MUST REACH AN AGREEMENT WITH IMF"
Andrew Vorkink, former Turkey Director of World Bank, has warned that Turkey should take some measures to both secure confidence in the markets and protect itself from collateral impacts of the global crisis. Vorkink highlighted the importance of Turkey reaching an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) immediately.

--MEMBERSHIP TO CERN
Turkey has initiated the official process to become a member of the Switzerland-based European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). Turkey's membership will cost about $35 million annually.

--NEW PROJECT FROM TOKI
Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKI) will construct houses on appropriate payment conditions for Turks who are living in foreign countries if they demand.

--COMPULSORY RELIGION LESSONS CAN BE REMOVED
Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan said that compulsory religion lessons at schools could be removed. "But the state should meet the religious education need," he added.

--EXTRADITE KILLERS ALSO TO TURKEY

France, which does not take any action about PKK terrorists, has captured the third and last leader of the ETA terrorist organization and extradited him to Spain a few hours later. The first two leaders of the organization were also detained in France and sent to Spain for trial. The same France released two leading members of the PKK terrorist organization despite all requests of Turkey for their extradition. One of the terrorists, Riza Altun, escaped to the north of Iraq soon after his release.

--CARLOS EULOGIZES TURKEY

Roberto Carlos, world famous Brazilian football star who plays for Turkish soccer team Fenerbahce, has eulogized Turkey in an interview with the documentary TV Channel National Geographic. Carlos said that Turkey was a well-developed country and a part of Europe. He also said that he was an admirer of Turkish cuisine.

--INDUSTRIAL HEARTLAND HIT

Some 39 percent of firms in the northwestern province of Kocaeli, Turkey's industrial heartland, have postponed their investments worth of $250 million because of the global crisis. Those projects would provide job opportunities to some 2,500 people.

--BLAST IN BINGOL KILLS A PERSON

Blast has killed a person in the eastern province of Bingol. Aziz Elkansu, 73, lost his life in the blast. A full investigation into the cause of the blast is under way.

--FENER AFTER UEFA

Fenerbahce who could not qualify from Group G in Champions League, will play an away match against Ukraine's Dinamo Kiev tonight. Germany's Florian Meyer will be the referee of the match that will kick-off at 9:45 p.m. Fenerbahce must pick up three points they require against Dinamo Kiev to finish third in Group G and book their place in the UEFA Cup.

--POWER STATION FROM SUMMER HOUSE

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler will turn consumers into producers of their own energy. People, who produce sun and wind energy at their summer houses, will consume the electricity for two months and then sell it to the state for the remaining 10 months of the year.

--HARSH CRITICISM TO OPPORTUNISTS

Labor Minister Faruk Celik reacted harshly to the businessmen who sack the workers with the excuse of financial crisis. Celik said, "What kind of industrialism is this?"

Fenerbahce's player Roberto Carlos told about his life in Istanbul to National Geographic which was shooting a documentary about Turkey. Carlos eulogized haricot beans and rice.
