-- INVESTIGATION INTO FIVE CLAIMS
The prosecutor's office in Ankara has requested that the Interior Ministry allow an investigation into Ankara Mayor Melih Gokcek for five charges, including selling natural gas meters at a high price, a year ago. But the ministry did not allow the investigation. Those who lodged a complaint to the prosecutor's office appealed the Interior Ministry’s decision to the Council of State. The Council of State then decided that the ministry should examine the claims through a preliminary inquiry. According to the report of the inspector in charge, the ministry will decide whether to allow an investigation. If the ministry does not permit an investigation, the complaining parties have the right to appeal again to the Council of State. Gokcek said, "This is a routine procedure. I will sue those who are defaming me."

-- DSP EXPELS FIVE LAWMAKERS
The Democratic Left Party, or DSP, headquarters sent five of its members to the Disciplinary Board, requesting a "precautionary expulsion" for them. These lawmakers are Ahmet Tan, Recai Birgun, Tayfun Icli, Mucahit Pehlivan and Emrehan Halici, who supported Kemal Kilicdaroglu, a candidate mayor of Istanbul from the Republican People's Party, or CHP.

-- A REMEDY OF $1 TRILLION
Leaders at the G20 meeting in London decided to do everything in their power to remove the damage stemming from the global crisis and agreed on a package aiming to revive economies and activate international trade. Developing countries are expected to benefit from the package, worth $1.1 trillion. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan met International Monetary Fund Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn. During the meeting, Erdogan and Kahn decided to resume direct talks.

-- IMKB OPERATION: 54 DETAINED
During a simultaneous operation in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, 54 people were detained for allegedly manipulating the Istanbul Stock Exchange, or IMKB. Galip Ozturk, owner of Metro Tourism Agency, is among the detainees.       Â

-- GANG OPERATION IN STOCK EXCHANGE
Fifty-four people who formed a gang and manipulated stocks have been detained, including leading businessmen who are accused of the corruption. Police raided six stock brokers who derived improper personal benefit from small investors. In operations carried out in five provinces, 54 people, 16 of them businessmen, were detained.

-- RADIO BROADCAST IN ARMENIAN STARTS
Turkey's state-run Television and Radio Corporation, or TRT, began radio broadcasting in the Kurdish and Armenian languages. The broadcasting in Armenian, within the scope of the "voice of Turkey," started Thursday.

-- SECRET WITNESS CLAIM REGARDING YAZICIOGLU
It was claimed that Muhsin Yazicioglu, the chairman of the Great Union Party, or BBP, who died in a helicopter crash last week, provided information and documents regarding the Ergenekon case to the prosecutor's office. The private channel Kanal D introduced assassination discussions with its story. It was claimed that Yazicioglu had meetings with prosecutors of the Ergenekon case very often. It was also claimed that Yazicioglu spoke about Hrant Dink's murder. A BBP lawyer said, "The pilot might have been poisoned" and requested an autopsy from the Kahramanmaras prosecutor's office. Yazicioglu's laptop was also stolen from his house just before the helicopter crash. Fethullah Gulen had also said that the incident should be investigated.

-- TALABANI COULD KEEP HIS WORD FOR ONLY 11 DAYS
During President Abdullah Gul's visit to Iraq on March 24, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said, "The PKK will either lay down arms or leave (these lands)." Talabani, known for denying what he says, had a meeting with Massoud Barzani, the head of the regional administration in north of Iraq. During this meeting, Talabani said, "I did not say anything like that. Such a view was Turkey's proposal."

The Ministry of Interior Affairs launched investigation into five separate accusations against Ankara Mayor Melih Gokcek. The investigation includes accusations of selling natural gas meters for high prices, irregularity with revisions in public works, causing financial damage to the municipality, misrepresentation and failing to declare his properties.

-- STOCK EXCHANGE OPERATION: 54 DETAINED
Police in Istanbul launched an operation against a group of people on charges of attempting to manipulate the stock exchange. Fifty-four people were detained in the operation. The detainees are accused of purposefully increasing the price of some shares and selling them. Several businessmen are among the detainees.

The Wall Street Journal claimed that an agreement on establishing relations between Turkey and Armenia and opening of borders would be signed on April 16, paving the way for stability with energy lines.

-- CHAOS IN DSP; SEZER AND ECEVIT DRAW SWORDS
Five DSP deputies who opposed Democratic Left Party, or DSP, chairman Zeki Sezer and supported Kemal Kilicdaroglu of the Republican People's Party, or CHP, in the local elections were accused of betrayal and sent to a disciplinary board to be expelled from the party. The party administration decided for an extraordinary convention.

-- DAVOS QUEUE IN DORCHESTER
Arab businessmen, who have not forgotten Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's stance during the World Economic Forum in Davos, rushed to the Dorchester Hotel in London to shake hands with Erdogan, who was in the city for the G20 Summit. Erdogan, who reminded Israeli President Shimon Peres of the crime against humanity that Israel committed in Gaza during the Davos forum, won support in the Arab world. Arab businessmen have not forgotten that historic stance and rushed to Erdogan's hotel in London to see him for a short time. They waited in the lobby for hours just to congratulate Erdogan.

-- TRT AIRS RADIO BROADCASTS IN KURDISH, ARMENIAN
Turkey's Radio and Television Corporation, or TRT, announced that it had launched radio broadcasts in Kurdish the previous day and in Armenian the day before. The 24-hour Kurdish radio broadcast is available on FM, whereas the Armenian broadcast can be heard between 7 and 7:30 a.m. and between 6 and 6:30 p.m.
