-- ELECTIONS IN NORTHERN CYPUS
Nearly 161,000 voters went to the ballot boxes in Turkish Cyprus on Sunday to elect 50 new parliamentarians. Seven political parties participated in the elections. According to the preliminary results, the National Unity Party, or UBP, won 44 percent of the votes. Results revealed that Turkish Cypriots returned to the UBP once again because of economic crisis and corruption.

The humanitarian drama on the Panamanian-flagged Turkish ship Pinar E finally ended. The ship had been stranded in the Mediterranean Sea after rescuing 145 African migrants as their boats were about to capsize. Italy first airlifted 10 migrants whose health conditions were deteriorating. Later, Italy evacuated all the migrants. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan claimed to have stepped in to end the drama. According to the claims, Erdogan phoned his Italian counterpart, Silvio Berlusconi, to ask him to do whatever is necessary.

-- ERDOGAN URGES TURKS IN GERMANY TO BECOME CITIZENS
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan called on Turks living in Germany on Sunday to become German citizens. Erdogan arrived in the German city of Hanover on Saturday to attend a birthday party for former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder. Erdogan criticized in a news conference Germany’s visa policy and called on Turks living in Germany to vote in the German elections in September.

The National Unity Party, or UBP, won the parliamentary elections in northern Cyprus on Sunday and finished the election race as the first party. This result is expected to have an impact on the negotiations between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots.

Dervis Eroglu's National Unity Party, or UBP, emerged victorious from Sunday's general election in Turkish Cyprus. The UBP got 44 percent of the votes and won 26 seats in parliament and came to power alone. The Republican Turkish Party, or CTP, got 29 percent of the vote and won 15 seats and became the opposition, despite the recent Ergenekon claims regarding the UBP.

The opposition National Unity Party, or UBP, won the parliamentary elections in Turkish Cyprus on Sunday. UBP Chairman Dervis Eroglu will become prime minister again after five years. Most experts predict that, with the UBP's decisive victory, unification of the two sides in Cyprus became tougher to realize.
-- ERDOGAN ENCOURAGES TURKISH IMMIGRANTS IN GERMANY
Turkish Premier Tayyip Erdogan gave advice to Turkish immigrants living in Germany on Sunday. Erdogan encouraged Turkish nationals living in Germany to become German citizens, vote in the upcoming elections in September and learn the German language.

-- NEW PERIOD IN NORTHERN CYPRUS: MAIN OPPOSITION WINS ELECTION
The National Unity Party, or UBP, under the leadership of Dervis Eroglu, won 44 percent of the votes early in the general elections held in Turkish Cyprus. The UPB won enough seats to form a single-party government. The ruling Republican Turkish Party, or CTP, won only 15 seats while Serdar Denktas's Democrat Party won five seats. Eroglu said they were not against the EU, noting that they favored the continuation of talks with Greek Cyprus.

Sabanci Group Managing Director Guler Sabanci said she had the impression that the crisis had slowed down but still had way to go. Sabanci who argued that China would gain importance in the new world order, saying, "All of us, including the U.S., will borrow from China and the roles in the IMF will be redistributed."

-- A HUMANITARIAN DRAMA OFF EUROPE
The risk of epidemics emerged on the Panamanian-flagged Turkish ship that waited in the Mediterranean Sea for 10 days under a blockade of war vessels as neither Malta nor Italy accepted the African migrants rescued by the ship’s crew members. Baris Erdogdu, owner of the ship, said: "Italy sent blankets, foodstuff and potable water. But 39 migrants are in serious condition."

The National Unity Party, or UBP, led by Dervis Eroglu won the early elections in Turkish Cyprus. While the UBP won 44 percent of votes, the ruling Republican Turkish Party, or CTP's, votes stood at 29.5 percent.
