ANTALYA - The rush of birds to the "Noel Baba Bird Paradise" in the Demre district of Antalya has started to attract visitors.
Noel Baba, the Turkish name for Santa Claus, remains one of the biggest wetlands in Turkey, home to about 150 bird species.
Registered as an official bird paradise in 2000, Noel Baba is protected by the state. "While natural beauties like these are fast fading away, Noel Baba remains strong, thanks to precious efforts by local nongovernmental organizations, local administrators and the support of our citizens," said Murat Sefa Demiryürek, the highest official in the Demre district. "Every day more and more species are coming here."
