GEORGIA - Twenty-three Turkish fishermen were taken into custody yesterday in Georgia for illegal fishing. Georgian coastguards confiscated the Turkish fishing boat, while officials said the interrogation of the captain was ongoing.
Georgia has confiscated more than 70 boats in the last 5 years, mostly with Turkish, Greek and Ukrainian flags. The country’s laws foresee large fines or imprisonment for ships violating its territorial waters.
