General Buyukanit: No power is strong enough to divide us

General Buyukanit warned in his speech that "there is no power strong enough to divide Turkey," referring to the recent PKK attacks on Turkish soil and warning young officers and military academy students "If these attacks make you bend in fear, you must immediately take leave of this profession." General Buyukanit also took time to underscore the committment the Turkish military has undertaken to protecting the status of secularity in Turkey, noting "The Turkish Armed Forces does not and must not have any connection with domestic politics. But our national and secular state, which is our nation's and regime's basic foundation, is and will continue to be our very reason for existance."
 
Interestingly, General Buyukanit also took time in his remarks yesterday to talk about what made a "charismatic leader," which is the expression media giant Rupert Murdoch used to describe Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan after meeting Erdogan in New York last week. General Buyukanit used words from well known journalist and teacher Peter Drucker to describe his interpretation of "charismatic leaders" in the world, warning that charismatic leaders as such do not believe in team work, will aim to remake the system to perpetuate their own leadership, and are typical narcissists. General Buyukanit ended this analysis by pointing out that, aside from Ataturk, every political leader who had been characterized as "charismatic" had turned out in the final result to be unbalanced.
