ISTANBUL - The Turkey distributor of Garmin, a navigation and communication tools company, has announced that the firm is introducing three-dimension navigation maps in Turkey.
"Our aim is to sell 20,000 units in Turkey," said Cem Baytekin, the Turkey distributor of Garmin. "Ten percent of this amount will be three-dimension navigational tools."
Noting that the navigation market in Turkey is new, Baytekin said if navigation consciousness will increase, then sales will rise. In 2007, total sales of navigational tools stood at between 3,000 and 4,000. Last year, the figure climbed to 20,000 and this year it is expected to reach 50,000 or 60,000, according to Baytekin. "The global navigational market posts double-digit growth. Last year Garmin’s global sales amounted to 13 million to 14 million units. Comparing 2007 sales in Turkey to last year, we see that the Turkish market has grown 300 percent."
Baytekin said Garmin has seen a slight decrease in sales due to the global crisis, but sales have increased again since April. "In Turkey there are 20 navigation brands but only three of them are global brands while the others are Chinese brands," Baytekin said. "Garmin’s market share in Turkey is 50 percent but this year we predict this figure to drop slightly. There are many cheap Chinese navigational tools on the market."
