ISTANBUL - The Savings Deposit Insurance Fund, or TMSF, has filed a complaint against Mehmet Emin Karamehmet, the chief of Çukurova Holding.
The complaint said Karamehmet, who was a former majority shareholder at Interbank which was seized by the TMSF, voiced "affronts and slanders" in statements published widely by newspapers on June 3.
"The statements ... are offensive, cynical and are of a personal assault nature," the complaint said. "It became necessary to apply for an investigation.
The complaint recalled that Karamehmet, speaking to reporters during a trip to northern Iraq, claimed TMSF did not act justly, broke the laws or threatened him. "The cruelty of these practices will, maybe, be understood 20 years later," he had said, according to press reports. "Today we are discussing the Sept. 12 coup ... Maybe 20 years later we will be discussing TMSF’s cruelty."
