ISTANBUL - Former Germany and Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Toni Schumacher came to Turkey to participate in a charity event in aid of the disabled.
Schumacher will play in a charity match with other former Turkish stars such as Tanju Çolak, Rıdvan Dilmen and Ali Gültiken, in order to raise awareness of disabilities in Turkey and provide support for the Koza Clinic, which works with people affected by disabilities. Schumacher is optimistic about the project. "I believe that a small scream starts a big avalanche, and I believe this game will lead to a great avalanche in that matter," he said.
The German, who played for Turkish club
Fenerbahçe for three years between 1988 and 1991 before retiring from the game, was one of the first high-profile footballers to perform in the Turkish league.
Schumacher was a part of the Fener team that won the league with a record-breaking 103 goals scored in the 1988-1989 campaign.
