ANTALYA - A foreign resident in Antalya claims that aGerman-French couple is conning local vendors taking free food and drink. Most people are reluctant to contact the police but the total damage is important, the resident adds

Beware of a German-French couple that cons people in Antalya, an expatriate in Turkey has said.

Recently a foreign resident living in Antalya’s Çıralı district sent an e-mail to the Hürriyet Daily News & Economic Review, stating that a German-French couple traveling around the city has ripped off some local restaurants and markets in the Olympos district and he warned people against any further damage by this couple. According to the claims of this resident, the couple travels in a white modern campervan with Spanish number plates 9493 BKY.

The resident also explained in his e-mail that the couple claims they have lost their wallet and credit cards and that they have already contacted the bank in their home country, which has supposedly arranged a money transfer to a nearby Turkish bank in a few days.

Free food

The German man aged around 60 introduces himself as Fritz or Knut, and asks if they can get free food and drink at local restaurants and markets for a few days.

"Out of the courtesy of most Turkish people, this couple have received whatever they want without paying anything. However, they have disappeared leaving unpaid bills of 50 to 100 (Turkish) liras in each restaurant and market, including the Çıralı Market, Ceylan Cafeteria, İkiz Restaurant and Nur Pansiyon in Çıralı", claims a local resident, who also added that the couple stayed in the Çıralı district between Feb. 14 and 16, and left an unpaid bill of around 300 liras behind.

The resident said it is really difficult to convince the aggrieved people to call the police as they think the said amounts are relatively small, so there is no need to spend time going to the police.

"However, if you count the total financial damage they have caused in a month, it totals a few thousand liras. They could even be taken to court or jail for this," the resident added.

Description

According to a description given by the resident, the male is aged around 60 and around 180 centimeters in height. He has short hair with large boxer nose. He is a German citizen traveling with an expired and invalid German passport. He also speaks reasonably proficient Turkish, English and German. The female is aged around 50 or 60, and is 170 centimeters tall. She has long black hair and occasionally wears sunglasses. The couple is traveling with two dogs, one black and one white.

The woman accuses Turks of not helping them after they have asked for help. It is thought she is a French citizen and speaks French. However, she often introduces herself as her partner’s Spanish wife. They communicate with each other in English.

Stating these people are thieves, the resident kindly asked the Daily News to issue a warning to protect people from any further damage caused by this couple.
