ISTANBUL - Just days before getting in their cars to break speed limits at the IstanbulPark circuit, Formula One drivers will show their football skills at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium. The Formula All Stars team takes on Turkish players and celebrities for a charity game tonight
Formula One is coming to town for the fifth time and the Grand Prix will be preceded by an exhibition football match yet again. Formula Football Festival, an exhibition game played between a team of drivers and a Turkish all-star squad will be held at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium in Istanbul tonight. The event will signify the start of the Formula week in Istanbul, which will host the fifth edition of the ING Turkish Grand Prix at IstanbulPark this Sunday. The Formula All Stars team, called "Nazionale Piloti," includes drivers such as Fernando Alonso (Renault), Nico Rosberg (Williams-Toyota), Felipe Massa (Ferrari), Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull), Sebastien Bourdais (Toro Rosso), and aTurkish driver Jason Tahinci.
Nazionale Piloti takes on an all-star squad in each country the Formula World Championship visits, and tonight it will take on a group of former football stars and pop celebrities.
The Turkish team named "2009 All Stars" has
Fenerbahçe legend Rıdvan Dilmen, alongside
Galatasaray’s past stars Erhan Önal, Cüneyt Tanman, Hakan Ünsal and Semih Yuvakuran, while former
Beşiktaş favorites Mehmet Özdilek, Ali Gültiken, Feyyaz Uçar and Recep Çetin will be rounding up the retired professionals in the squad. For the celebrities, singer and film director Mahsun Kırmızıgül, comedians Yavuz Seçkin and Behzat Uygur, sports commentator Ümit Aktan, and actors Yalçın Dümer and Kerem Alışık will be on the Turkish squad. The visitors prevailed in both previous two meetings between Nazionale Piloti and Turkish All Stars. The Formula Football Festival is a tradition of the motor sports top championship, and is organized for a good cause. All income from the game is given to a group of charities.
Tickets for the game are priced from 5 to 10 liras and are available at Biletix offices or at www.biletix.com. Kick off is 8 p.m. and will be broadcast live on TRT 1.
Meanwhile, tickets for the ING Turkish Grand Prix are still on sale, prices range from 45 to 700 liras.
