Food sector in Turkey grows least in Jan-Jun term

Turkey's food quantity growth increased 1.8 percent within the first six months of 2008 and become the least growing sector, compared to the same period of 2007, according to a report of Nielsen Research.

According to the figures released, all sectors but alcohol revealed growth in quantity within the first half of 2008 compared to the same period of last year. Paper sector showed the biggest growth with more than 10 percent while food sector grew by only 1.8 percent.  Â

 

The growth in house keeping sector realized as 7.6 percent while the personal care sector grew 5.9 percent.

 

The figures, released by Nielsen by following the more than fast consumed products in more than 100 sectors excluding cigarettes, no inflationist pressure or decrease in growth is seen except alcoholic beverages in the same period.

The shrinking in alcoholic beverages resulted especially due to 23.8 percent price hike in the sector.

 

Nielsen also said the price change realized as 10.5 percent in the categories excluding cigarettes, compared to the same period of 2007.
