The General Staff made two statements regarding yesterday’s operation. The first stated that ‘an intense intervention’ had taken place inside northern Iraq. The second explained that more operations would follow.

After the rebels were located via ‘actionable intelligence’ provided by the US, the General Staff gave orders to squadrons in the border area. Super Cobra helicopters left Çukurca to bomb the camp, 20 km inside northern Iraq, according to Dogan News Agency. US satellites showed approximately 30 PKK casualties.

On Friday Prime Minister Erdoğan declared that he had given authorisation to the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) to carry out cross-border operations.

Turkey has the right to defend itself against terrorists, said Lieut. Col. Almarah Belk, a Pentagon spokeswoman.
