FETHİYE - The Mediterranean resort town of Fethiye will be a place adventure enthusiasts want to be this weekend.

The First International Lycian Challenge will be organized on June 20 and 21 in Fethiye in collaboration between Lycian Mountaineering and Outdoor Sports Club and Macera Akademisi. The competition, that will last for two days in Fethiye’s environment, is composed of foot racing, trekking, orienteering, mountain biking, rappelling, flying fox, sea kayaking, and surprise tasks. Competitors will prove their endurance in the arduous land and atmospheric circumstances.

Competitors will be challenged in teams of two and four in easy, medium and difficult tracks. Difficult laps include 34 kilometers of biking, 38 kilometers of trail running, eight kilometers of sea kayaking, 150 meters of waterfall rappelling, swimming, and mind challenging games, in which more than 200 local and foreign athletes are expected to participate.

Competitors will attempt the 150-meter waterfall rappelling, which will be the longest rope descending and might break the Turkish record, on the second day.

All laps of the Lycian Adventure Challenge and the interviews with the participants will be taped by the State Radio and Television and issued in the news. In addition to this, a documentary film will be prepared and issued in July.

Winners of the competition will be awarded accommodation in Lykia World Ölüdeniz Holiday Village, a diving tour with Divers Delight and a paragliding with Ikarus.

Adventure racing is a competition that combines more than one discipline such as running, mountain biking, canoeing, orienteering, swimming, climbing, rope descending, in a limited time and with laps predetermined by organizers. For detailed information you may visit www.lycianchallenge.com.
