İZMİR - The 20th edition of the Çeşme Festival will be held between June 29 and July 4, Ege TV CEO Erol Yaraş announced at a press conference attended by Çeşme Mayor Faik Tütüncüoğlu.
The festival will be more colorful this year, incorporating various activities and concerts, including a swimming contest to be held June 30, Yaraş said.
"With the Çeşme Marine Fest and the International Song Contest attended by many countries, Çeşme will have the chance to promote itself in the international arena," he added.
The annual event is organized with the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Çeşme Municipality and Ege TV, along with contributions from Sunexpress Airlines, but Yaraş said they did not receive the support they expected from the culture ministry this year. If İzmir is going to become an internationally known destination, he said, all of the professional chambers should do what they can for the city.
Foreign guests expected
Çeşme Mayor Tütüncüoğlu added that Izmir people should support the festival, saying, "Most of the people in Izmir have summer houses in Çeşme, so they should support Çeşme’s improvement. However, they do not." The festival will host 250 foreign guests from 22 countries. "This is not easy," Tütüncüoğlu said. "For that reason, everybody should support this festival."
