“One whole week passed since the elections in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) took place. There is no change in the resulting “confusing” picture. There cannot be a change, because there is no one, who will bear the responsibility to open doors for a new period. The voice of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, which came from Central Asia, is not heard much here. Ankara should negotiate with Denktas at once and steps should be taken to form a new government. This requires generating a minimum common denominator on what will be done regarding the Cyprus issue. “It is not absolutely necessary to take the Europe target into consideration when preparing for a new period in Cyprus. I observe that we are trying to emphasize negative attitudes of Europe and claim that there is a possibility of stalemate regarding the Cyprus issue. It is not possible. If we are stuck in this association of “Either Cyprus or Europe”, then we might face the risk of further narrowing our room for manoeuvre. Even if there were no EU, Turkey has to solve this issue. The Cyprus issue is continuing to occupy a place in the agenda of the UN Security Council. Reports always depict Turkey as the guilty party. We should overcome this situation. “… The Annan Plan is a plan that was prepared and put forward by UN. It takes the EU perspective of Turkey into consideration as well… Moreover, the signature of the parties or a referendum in Cyprus is not sufficient for the plan to be operational. A possible agreement should be adopted by parliaments of all guarantor countries, including Turkey… In other words, our will is going to be reflected on the outcome. The time of feeling pulses, has passed. It is now time for leadership and diplomatic accomplishment. It is expected from everyone who calls himself a leader.”
