Their fatigue is evident in every move. Turkish Cypriots were too tired to even get to the ballot box. And they are not just tired, these Turkish Cypriots, who have shown such decisiveness in trying to find a solution to their problems in the past two years; they are also disappointed. What will happen after this? Answers to this question are not as optimistic as those in the past. Mehmet Ali Talat, even before the elections, began to talk of a "new action" for Cyprus. What new action? According to Talat, "During the Denktas period, political action in Cyprus was based on the reality of 'no-solution'. We are going to create a new 'Cyprus action' based on the reality of a solution." Which means? "From now on, we will fight the people who are blocking the solution" says Talat. He is speaking of Greek side leader Papadoupolus. He is hinting that the Turkish Cypriots will begin raising their voices in opposition to Papadoupolus.  But is Papadoupolus the only barrier to the solution? What about the Greek Cypriots, who voted "no" on the Annan plan? How will the mentality of the Greek Cypriots, who see the Turkish Cypriots as a minority, change?  Mehmet Ali Talat says "We will disclose the real face of the Greeks, we will show the world their real intentions. We will reveal how their fanatic approach does not fit in with any European reality."  There will be no solution if Cyprus goes only through diplomatic channels, or through bargaining at the table with Europe. The Greek Cypriots are part of the EU. Their voices are heard officially in European establishments. There is no solution for the Cypriot Turks other than to use every medium available to them, including the streets, to make their voices heard. But will the new President put a politics that has the voice of the people firmly behind him in the forefront of his moves against the Greek Cypriots' unfair politics? Up until now, Talat has used his ability in politics to fight against the "anti-solution" lobby on the Turkish Cypriot side. But I think Talat is falling behind. Everyone is waiting for new "action" as well as a new "action man" in Cyprus.  If Talat can do it, Turkish Cypriots and Turks will relax. But if not, escaping the strong opposition that Denktas has been hinting at since yesterday as well as flow of ultra nationalistic feelings coming out of Turkey, will be impossible. Â
