It is being said that during the Prime Minister's Israel visit, Turkey's offer to act as a mediator in the area was renewed. But it seems that the Israeli side didn't really "hear" the proposal. Turkey is incredibly unsuccessful in being a mediator for the Middle East peace process. But this reality was revealed not on this trip, but at a March meeting that took place in London. The PKK is busy transferring C4Yesterday I wrote that the terror organization PKK is preparing for "demonstrations," and that the targets are big cities, especially in touristic areas. I called on the "visual based" media to be ready and sensitive. A man named Murat Karayilan has moved to the head of the PKK, once the organization got its old name back. The plans to attack big cities and tourist areas come from Karayilan's directions. PKK is currently trying to send large amounts of the explosive "C4" (where it came from is not clear) to different areas in Turkey. The explosive found under one of the legs of the Halic Bridge last weekend in Istanbul was part of the C4 being spread around. Yesterday, 10 kilos of C4 headed for sabotage teams planning to hide the explosives in "walkmans" was uncovered. Someone is trying to bring back to life the previously marginalized PKK. Which is why the planned attacks are so important. The organization is trying to gather militants again. The media must be very careful not to become the tool of PKK propoganda. At a time period that came head to head with the Prime Minister's visit to South Africa, a meeting entitled "The Rebuilding of the Middle East" was held in London at the initiative of British Prime Minister Tony Blair. There were around 35 participants in this meeting, from countried involved in international activities in the region to countries simply from the region. Israel announced that it wouldn't be participating in the conference. Can you guess what the only country from the region was that wasn't invited? I'll tell you: Turkey. Â The country held up as "powerful" and a "model country" was not invited to this important meeting. I asked Head of the Foreign Ministry's Middle East section about this. "Yes, it's true, we weren't invited. But it's not very important. Because Turkey's affect on the region has always made England uncomfortable. In the end, without Turkey in the region, nothing would happen. They can gather as much as they want...." Time will show whether the Foreign Ministry is right about this. But in terms of understanding "where we sit" with the West, it's important that you know these things. Â
