Extra measures against terror discussed in Turkey

The security, legal, economic, social-cultural, psychological and international dimensions of the struggle with terrorism were analyzed Thursday during a meeting attended by high-level Turkish officals, the Prime Ministry Office said. (UPDATED)

The officials evaluated what kind of approaches of the related bodies could contribute to these areas, the statement said. 

"It was seen that the duration of the continued fight against the terrorist organization, which is nearly at breaking point, will decline as people's support for the security forces and their sensitivity about the issue continues," it added.

The meeting on countering terrorism, held at the Prime Ministry Office in Ankara under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, was attended by several generals and ministers, including the newly appointed Turkish army chief Gen. Ilker Basbug.Â

Turkey, provided with intelligence by the United States, has stepped up military action against the outlawed separatist PKK since December.Â

The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by much of the international community including the United States and the EU.Â
