Daimi Akyuz, who caused the death of Alistair Grimason with a bullet he fired from his gun in Izmir, was sentenced to a 36-year prison sentence. However, according to the new Penal Execution Law, he will be kept in prison for only 11 years. Akyuz had been tried on grounds of killing Ali Bektas and Alistair Grimasson, of wounding Gunay Ozdemir and Yilmaz Ergun and of using unlicensed gun by the Izmir Karsiyaka Heavy Penal Court. After the killing of his daughter, Scottish David Grimason launched a disarmament campaign and collected thousands of signatures in his country and Turkey and handed these petitions to the Turkish parliament. He entered all the hearings held in Turkey with 56 attorneys.  Â
