The European Security and Defense Assembly condemned Wednesday the terrorist organization PKK and called on the European Council and the Council of the Western European Union to be more careful about the terrorist organization's activities in member countries.
During Wednesday's meeting, the assembly unanimously approved "the terrorist activities along the Turkish-Iraqi border" report prepared by British parliamentarian Robert Walter, the Anatolian Agency reported.
Â
The report said the EU should firmly implement policies and rules regarding the fight against terrorism.
Â
The report also said members of the EU and the Western European Union should display the necessary sensitivity regarding the activities carried out by the terrorist organization on their territories such as money laundering, drug trafficking, smuggling of explosives and arms, human trafficking and propaganda via TV broadcasts.
Â
Turkey should carry on with its activities aiming at democratization and modernization, the report said and added that the Turkish government should develop a comprehensive approach concerning the country's southeast.
Â
Turkey, provided with intelligence by the United States, stepped up its campaign to crackdown on the PKK both inside Turkey and in northern Iraq, after the terror organization increased its attacks on Turkish soldiers, as well as civilians.
Â
The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by Ankara and much of the international community, including the EU and the United States.
