EU parliamentarians hopeful for settlement in Cyprus

Members of the High Level Contact Group of the European Parliament for relations with the Turkish Cypriot community expressed optimism about a solution to Cyprus problem upon recent developments to reunify the island on Thursday.
Recent atmosphere in Cyprus offered a unique opportunity for a settlement, said Francoise Grossetete, a member of the European Parliament and the coordinator of the group, at a press conference after holding talks at Turkish and Greek Cypriot sides of the island.
She said that the group was in the island for the sixth time to hold talks with Turkish and Greek Cypriot officials, as well as UN officials; and that they had expectations from the recent process launched by Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias on March 21, Anatolian Agency reported.
French parliamentarian also said that the group strongly supported the process and she pledged to encourage the EU to exert every kind of efforts for a solution. Â
