EU members France, Austria, Holland look to Cyprus as talks-stopper

A group of EU countries known to be leaning against Turkish acceptance into the EU have reportedly started a search for ways to put talks with Turkey on hold until 2008. Austria, France, and Holland are using the Cyprus matter and the "problem of the opening up of ports" as a reason for stalling talks, report Brussels sources.

These three countries are pointing to the upcoming Turkish 2007 elections as a reason there will be no more steps taken in Ankara towards solving the Cyprus issue, noting that this forms the basis for the reason to postpone EU accession talks.
