The European Union must stop PKK terrorists from collecting money within its 27-nation territory, the bloc's anti-terrorism chief said on Thursday, adding that the PKK used the funds to finance attacks in Turkey.

"I will come to the (EU) Council soon with a policy package, some proposals to reinforce the fight against PKK in Europe," Reuters quoted Gilles de Kerchove, who coordinates the bloc's anti-terrorism policies but has no decision-making power, as telling EU lawmakers.

"It's an active organization collecting money in the EU," he said. "They play a very negative role, collecting money to mount attacks both in Turkey and in northern Iraq," he added.

Turkey has long said the EU is not doing enough to fight PKK operations in Europe. The PKK is on the EU's terrorism blacklist which means its assets should be frozen across the bloc.
