ISTANBUL - Ericsson Turkey and Netron announced the opening of the Ericsson Telecommunication Academy on Thursday.
Serdar Sanön, vice president for Ericsson Turkey and Israel, said the firms invested approximately $5 million in the academy. "Educating people is something that we have sought to do for many years. But we never had a chance to find the suitable partner," Sanön said. "Now we will direct young people’s power and energy to the telecommunications sector. We are targeting 1,000 students in the first year."
Ericsson Turkey and Netron will work in parallel, Sanön said, adding that the telecommunications giant will give "its full support" with operator networks and ecosystems. "This is a first for Turkey and it [testifies to the fact that] there is huge potential here," he said. "We believe that we will transfer brain and labor power from Turkey to all over the world."
"We aim to create the right employment in the right place," said Bülent Tekmen, general manager of Netron. "Turkey has the youngest population among European countries. We will use this as our motto. Compared to overall employment, information technology employment is only five out of 1,000 in Turkey. We aim to increase this figure."
Tekmen said through the academy, the companies would apply the learning environment to mobile phones by using third-generation technology, with the support of Ericsson.
The academy will serve information and communication technologies, aiming to train the necessary qualified workforce for businesses. Classes will be predominantly in Turkish, and certified training and professional courses will be created.
The opening ceremony in Istanbul was attended by State Minister Egemen Aksu and Abdülkadir Aksu, a former interior minister from the Justice and Development Party.
