Following his Wednesday meeting with US President George W. Bush, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan took the opportunity to tour various sites around the famous Washington Mall. PM Erdogan visited the Jefferson Memorial, constructed in 1942, and was given a poster of an American Indian while there.Following this, Erdogan visited the Lincoln Memorial. Turkish diplomats accompanying him on this tour included Istanbul MP Egeman Bagis, who is also the head of the Turkish-American Friendship group in the Turkish Parliament. Erdogan had his picture taken with tourists at the monuments, and paid close attention to children that were there too. Coming across a child wearing a blue and yellow outfit, Erdogan turned to Egeman Bagis and said "He's wearing my team's uniform." (Erdogan is a well known Fenerbahce supporter.) When a little girl that Erdogan was holding and posing for pictures with began to cry, the PM handed her back to her father and assured him (in Turkish) "She was already crying." Â
