Speaking at the opening of a summit of African leaders in the Ethopian capital of Addis Ababa today, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized fanaticism as dragging the world towards crisis, noting "as Turkey's participation in the EU comes closer, these scenarios of disaster, such as the clashes of civilizations, turn out to be empty."
Touching on what he said was the "widening gap" between the West and the Islamic world, Erdogan noted "While on the one hand there are terrorist acts which are being carried out in the name of religious values, on the other hand, there is a fanaticism which identifies everything and everyone different as 'other,' and together, these forces are pushing the world towards crisis."
