ISTANBUL - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad described the vigilance of the Iranian and Turkish nations as a source of fear and deep concern for Israel and its allies, during a visited paid by former Turkish Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan, reported Fars News Agency. "Now many people of the world, including those in Latin America, Africa, Asia and even in the U.S. are awakened and feel disgust for the Zionists," he said in a meeting with Erbakan in Tehran on Sunday.
Describing Iran and Turkey's role in the new era as important, he said the two countries should unite and build the new world. "The Islamic countries, especially Iran and Turkey, should pave the way for more friendship and proximity of the nations by expanding and strengthening their cooperation and relations," the Iranian president said.
Erbakan, for his part, described the Turkish people as friends and brothers of the Iranian nation, and welcomed further bolstering of ties and cooperation between the two sides. He further pointed to Iran's right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and termed access to nuclear energy as an "inalienable right of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
Strong reaction for Gaza
Erbakan also visited Mahmoud Shahroudi, Iranian judiciary chief. Countries like Iran and Turkey that enjoy a high status in the world can bring pride to Muslims, Shahroudi said, reported Tehran Times.
Shahroudi also praised the Turkish government and nation for their strong reaction to Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip in January. Shahroudi also advised the Islamic countries to take serious measures to consolidate their unity.
Erbakan also pointed to the Turkish nation’s firm belief in Islam, saying unfortunately serious efforts have been made to separate Muslims from their real identity. He said humanity’s success is meaningless without Islam. The only way to foil enemies’ conspiracies is to establish a modern Islamic world, the former Turkish leader said.
