ANKARA - The e-state project became operational yesterday with a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

"The main goal is to provide fast and quality service to the public, and to reduce the bureaucracy to a minimum," Erdoğan said. Public services will be accessible online with the project, enabling users to save time and energy. "It is a new period in state-citizen relations. From now on the state will go before the public," Erdoğan said about the e-project, also referred to as the "short-cut to the state."

Some public services that required an inter city trip can be accessed via the Internet, Erdoğan said. An information society produces, communicates, uses, integrates and manages information to create welfare. "Both the citizens and state institutions need a mental adaptation for efficient use of online services," Erdoğan said.

"Services will be customized for individuals," said Erdoğan. The e-state door can provide prioritization of services according to the user, enabling the public to easily reach their most preferred service," the PM said.

Electronic services are accessible via "www.turkiye.gov.tr".

21 public services online
Citizenship numbers, e-state door passwords, electronic signatures or mobile electronic signatures will be enough to reach 21 public services online, a number that will gradually increase. Web sites of 8,000 government agencies will be included to the network. The Web site is expected to receive over a million clicks each day by the end of 2009.

"E-state door project is Turkey’s project, a sign of evolving from a bureaucratic state to an electronic state. Government structure will become more transparent, more modern and more dynamic. It will bring improvement to the daily lives of the people," Erdoğan said.
