EDİRNE - During the opening ceremony of the new pedestrian street of Saraçlar in Edirne, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, deputy group chairman for the Republican People’s Party, or CHP, spoke of not neglecting the human factor when creating beautiful cities.
"This area we are opening as of now will provide you the means to wander in a consciousness of total freedom. There will not be any vehicles, traffic problems or air pollution," he said. He also praised Hamdi Sedefçi, the mayor of Edirne for his performance for the last 15 years, saying, "He is one person who devoted himself to Edirne. Beyond being a politician, he dedicated his life to the residents of Edirne."
Mayor Sedefçi said that Saraçlar Street was the heart of Edirne. "When I was elected to the office 15 years ago, the Saraçlar Street project was my dream. Edirne had traffic, smoke and exhaust fumes right in the heart of itself." Sedefçi said. Slowly, they realized the dream. First they opened Tahmis Square and then Saraçlar Street for pedestrians only.
