The Dutch are due to vote in a referendum on Wednesday on whether to ratify the European Constitution. Current polls show that 60% of voters will say "No" to the document. After France's rejection on Sunday, a Dutch "No" would be a huge set back to the 25-nation bloc. Voting booths will open at 7:30 a.m. local time and close at 9:00 p.m. with first results expected half an hour later. Speaking on television last week, Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkende said, "Let's not let ourselves be led by polls. Let's hope that when they're in the voting booth, people think about all the people that say this constitution would be a positive development." Many fear that the Netherlands will be engulfed by a super-state headed in Brussels dominated by Germany, France and Britain which would put an end to liberal Dutch policies such as the legalization of marijuana and euthanasia.
